So who-all's going?

Note the date is earlier this year.

Peter.

The DC area will be well represented, although we'll miss Judy Cook this year; she's touring in the Midwest.

I'll be there -- doing a concert set on Sat. night at 9:00, leading a workshop of "Songs of Love, Requited and Un" at 10:00 p.m. Saturday, and serving as MC for "Songs for a Sunday Morning" on, believe it or not, Sunday morning. Oh, and breakfast with the usual cast of suspects at My Place on both mornings, I hope!

George Stephens & Mary LaMarca will be doing a concert set called "Workers and Wanderers." Don't know when exactly.

Bob Clayton & Jennifer Woods are going to be there too.

And I know Sandy and Caroline Paton will be there performing; as will Karen K., Woodchuck's Revenge, Liam's Brother (Dan Milner), Johnson Girls (Bonnie Milner & group), and no doubt many other Mudcatters. I always look forward to this festival!!

Yes, NOMAD is earlier this year. Oct 26 - 28, less than two weeks away. At Newtown High School in Newtown, Connecticut as usual. We still may have some fall foliage colors at that time.

More later.

Frank and I will be there on Saturday with our band "ShoreGrass." We're doing a concert called "Bluegrass Old and New" in the New Town Hall at 6 p.m. according to the online schedule, but I think it was moved to 7. Also, ShoreGrass will be doing a "Bluegrass Party" with "Home Grown String Band" Saturday night in the lecture hall from 9 to 11.

I want the 20 gig Nomad when I have a PC with a usb port... but for 700 bucks I'd happily settle for the 6 gig version...

The 20 gigger will hold 4000+ songs though... how cool is that!?!?!?!

;-)

I'll be there too, to do a one hour "workshoP on Small Town Songs, and to split a Gospel Styles workshop as part of the Gospel Messengers, with my dear friends, The Beans. It will be great to see old friends, and make new ones..

All of the gang from South Street Seaport Museum in NYC (The New York Packet, The Johnson Girls and Dan Milner & Bob Conroy) look forward to being at NOMAD and to hearing plenty of great music.

All the best,
Dan

Hey Jerry, Glad you'll be there again! Now my fondest hope is that they haven't scheduled the Gospel Messengers opposite my set, as has happened every other year in recent memory.....

If you haven't heard Jerry's great group, make it your business to be there. They're wonderful! Kathy

Here's the NOMAD page. They have events grids up, and there's a disappointing lack of the Westra name - you're only listed as leading the "Songs for a Sunday Morning" song swap in the cafeteria. Maybe it's not final, though. I noticed a few gaps.

I think I'm going to miss NOMAD this year. I spent too much moolah getting the roof fixed!

Whoops. You missed a couple, Jeri. Kathy's leading two sessions on Saturday evening 9 - 11 p.m. Kathy's Favorites at 9 and Songs of Love, Requited and Un at 10, in the Family Room (which reverts to a regular concert area at 6 p.m.) The Gospel Messengers are scheduled for a Gospel Style workshop, joined by The Beans at 7 p.m. in the same room. Jerry Rasmussen's Small Town Songs is scheduled for 9 p.m. in the Chorus Room. Follow one of the links above to the NOMAD page. The complete schedules are there.

Regards
John

Arrgh! Jerry, looks like I'm going to miss both of your sets. ShoreGrass was moved to 7 on Saturday, so I won't get to hear the Gospel Messengers, and we're playing from 9 to 11 in the lecture hall, so I can't hear the Small Town Songs. I love gospel music, and we in fact do a lot of bluegrass gospel in our band. And I'm curious about the Small Town Songs, having written one about the town of Branford.

Anyhow, hello back from Skip Gorman, from the other thread.

Jerry, give my love to the Beans (and tell them I've got a two month old infant!) I'm going to a conference on teaching dance that weekend. I haven't managed to make it to Nomad since the year Nathan tended Sandy and Caroline's table and ended up buying a hammered dulcimer from the vendor at the next table.

Hi, all,

What a line-up of friends & acquaintances! Looks like Duane D. & I will be there on Saturday. The only problem will be deciding *where* to be. I see too many conflicts in the schedule for easy decision-making. I wish we could hear you all.

looking forward to it,

bbc

Hi, Barbara: Now, what we should have done is have the Beans, ShoreGrass and the Gospel Messengers do the Gospel Styles together. One great thing about music... Joe and Frank grew in the rural south, and no one ever told them about pigeon-holeing music. They both loved to listen to the Grand Ole Opry, and love bluegrass gospel. It would have been fun to do Walking In Jerusalem just like John, with Joe doing a bass lead, and then hearing a bluegrass band do the same song in overdrive. Very different harmonies, and I don't ever remember the bass singer (if there is one) singing the lead in bluegrass gospel. I'd like to hear your song about Branford, sometime. Now that I am living in the smallest City in Connecticut (Derby) my little home town seems like a metropolis.

Just wanted to come back and thank all the people involved in producing this great little folk festival, especially the chair Ada Wilson, Barbara Ruth, Willa & Marc, John, et al. We had a great time, although we were pretty busy with 3 hours of playing in a 4 hour time-frame and didn't get to go to much else that was going on.

It was nice to see Mudcats Sandy and Caroline Paton, Karen, Dick and Susan.

Didn't realize there was another NOMAD thread when I posted the above note. It reminded me that I thought I saw BBC and Duane walk by, but I never got a chance to say hello and never saw them again. Hi, Barbara and Duane! Also, Mudcats Vixen and Raynaud (Vicky and Tim) were there, and it was good to see them again. Can't remember who else I'm forgetting . . .
