Hello Mudcatters, I have done a bit of searching in the DT but couldn't find this in it. The chorus goes something like this - She's a fine lass, a bonnie wee lass, Is bonnie wee Jennie MacCall. I gave her me mother's engagement ring and a......? I met her at the wedding in the co-operative hall. I was the best man, she was the belle of the ball. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch. VF

A short set of this was posted last year:  Jeannie McColl

Does anybody have more to add (a tune, for example)?

Malcolm has pointed straight at the lyrics. The song is more of the music-hall genre [nought wrang wi' that----]than Scottish tradition, and has a real lively tune--popular as a reel; I wish I could pass it on, but I'm a duffer as far as Chord notation etc. is concerned!

She's a fine wee lass, a bonnie wee lass, Is bonnie wee Jennie MacCall. I gave her ma mother's engagement ring and a bonnie wee tartan shawl. I met her at the wedding in the co-operative hall. I was the best man, she was the belle of the ball.

I put together a half-baked midi of this - how can I post it?

Cheers

If you have your own webspace, you can put the midi there, with a link to it from this thread.  You can also send a copy to Alan of Oz for the  Mudcat Midi Pages,  but he doesn't seem to have been around much, lately, so it might not appear for a while; if you'd like to send me a copy, too, at  South Riding Folk Network  I'll put in a link to it straight away (and in the other thread), until it gets a long-term home at the Midi pages here.

I gave her ma mither's engagement ring a bonnie wee Tartan shawl

The very night I met she wis awfy awfy shy
The rain cam pourin doon but she was happy so wis I
We ran like mad for shelter and wwe landed up a stair
The rain cam pouring oot o ma breeks but och I dinnae care

Noo I've wad ma Jeannie and bairnies we hiv three
Twa Dochters and a braw wee fellah that sits upon ma knee
They’re richt wee holy terrors and they're never still for lang
But they sit and listen every nicht while I sing this sang

Hi Guys, Just got back in and I really want to thank you for answering my thread. I have the tune in my head but just didn't have all the words. The midi is the same tune I know so thank you to Scabby Doug for making it up. We play it at a fair clip with a kinda bum-cha bum-cha bum-cha beat( hey, I can't play 'em, I just sing 'em)Again, thanks to Malcolm Douglas, Stavanger Bill, Scabby Doug and scotland forever for helping me out. I am a happy girl. VF

Thanks for the advice on posting midis, Malcolm. I posted a link (as you'll have seen) on the other thread. It's a bash at the tune.. I know that it's pretty rough, particlularly towards the end..

Did it at work using Noteworthy, then saved it as a Midi.

here's the link here

Cheers

Steven
