My Secret Santa is so thoughtful and kind! I'm very impressed. Hmmm, someone with a grasp of HTML. And someone with limited bandwith (I mean that in a literal way, not a metaphorical one) if they couldn't see the last messages in the previous thread...or are they bluffing...?

Big sigh, and sulk.

Has anyone seen Liz, I do hope she is ok and well. If anyone sees or speaks to Liz. Please can you prompt her to do the hint list... Nureyev is starting to smell a little sweaty and is stuck on the Bakerloo line. Causing a nasty little nif.

Please relieve my gnome soon, his little legs gets tired, in the meantime, I am comforting Mrs Nureyev who is green with worry over her little fuzzbut. And presses his fresh tights every night in preparation for his homecoming. We are worried he is going to miss thanksgiving.

Yours Ever so ever truely

Secret Santa x

PSEUDOLUS.

I thought you would like to know that your gift this year a) involves a cast of hundreds (well, dozens, y'know?) and b) is in the advanced stage of planning.

The execution phase begins soon. You will not be advised of when...

God how I hate elf mating season, horny little buggers...uh, oh, Ella. You're here.

Well, some questions.

A) What size picture frame?

B) Do you like chocolate?

C) Do you like a rubber tip on your beater. Notched or unnotched.

D) Do you already have any Dixie Chicks cds?

Do you want to learn your secret Santa's identity someday?

Post - Top - Home - Printer Friendly - Translate

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART TWO
From: Ella who is Sooze

Ooooh This is fun!

A. Any size picture frame! (I love wood and natural type things)

B. Erm, pains me to say this, but currently I am not liking chocolate... (well I love it really (yum yummy yum) BUT BUT BUT!!! - but trying not to) So I gues that's a NO. I'm allergic to chocolate, brings me out in fat.

C. No rubber tip on beater thank you, no nobble, not too short and not too long, medium weight, and not too thick.

D. Nope, I don't have any at all. But heard them lately on the radio, thought they were pretty good really. I thought to myself I'd love any one of their cds I think.

Yusss I'd like to learn who my secret santa is someday... try Pseudolis's suggestion, send me a card after the pressie to reveal all... NOT LITERALLY you understand! :) Just let me know who you are would be nice... I'm going to do that too I think for my santee.

I hope your elves are not causing you too much trouble. I've heard bromide in tea works fairly successfully for human males. But then you always need more elves... ;)

All the best, happy to answer any questions.

Cheers

Ella

Dear Santa...

I ran a check with the santas check list depot on my name... (see fibulas secret santa link) and this is how I came out...

Ella What a great person and friend! Definitely a "Nice!" Wonderful job of always considering others. Hands out compliments regularly. Knows the great importance of "please" and "thank you." A good role model. The main suggestions for improvement: eat more veggies and really wash those hands!

Sorry Fibulas santa I peeked!

But my readout also said I'm occasionally naughty just the tiniest bit... and mischeivious...

I personally plan not to put my real name on the package, and wasn't even going to put Mrrzy, since I thought it was supposed to be a secret... am I wrong? I don't reveal my real name anyway, but should I put Mrrzy on the package? Or is it to be left secret? Or is it up to the individual? I personally would love to find out, after the fact, who my Secret Santa was. But if it's a secret, that's OK too. Anybody who wants to know after the fact can always post here, something like Thanks for the yummy (chocolates, or whatever), SS, now who are you?

I can't read music but love to listen to it. I can play CD's, LP's, MD's and cassettes. I would love a recording of my SS doing whatever form of music he/she does or especially likes. I have a predilection for items that are both useful and ornamental. I love the outdoors and will never own enough field guides or books about animal habits. I am keenly interested in Native American lore. I also am interested in learning more about edible wild plants and ancient medicinal uses for them. I don't drink or smoke (anything!). I love brass! I rarely wear t-shirts that have any sort of slogan or logo on them. I could easily consider a bit of handcraft or even a small stone that is representative of wherever my SS lives as a nice gift.

From: Helen

I'm adding a few more hints because I got in early and now having read everyone else's I'm wondering whether my info was too sparse - a woman of few words!

I've copied what I wrote before and added some extra bits.

1. what is your age range? 46

2. gender? F (last time I looked, but with all those additives & genetically modified foods .....Oh, never mind!)

3. Do you have a favorite color? purr-ple, gotta be purr-ple, but other than that: shimmery colours, lots of colours.

4. favorite authors/ type of book? Unfortunately for Secret Santas I tend to buy as many books as I can find by my favourite authors (Margaret Atwood, Nevil Shute, Terry Pratchett etc) so there aren't many gaps left on the shelves there. But please note: I'm happy with second-hand/used books. I'm looking for different authors to try. I really like novels which explore people's motivations, and complexities of character, with interesting plots. I like non-fiction books which explore what makes people tick, too, so that includes spirituality & psychic stuff, self-help/psychology, etc etc

5. what books have you really been wanting? I've nearly got all of the Nevil Shute books now, so that doesn't help much. See comments in 4.

6. what type of music do you like? Harp music written by Turlough O'Carolan, e.g. played by Derek Bell of the Chieftains. Music is difficult because I like so many different types. Not really fond of Country & Western, though. I love African music, Middle Eastern music, Gypsy music - anything with complex polyrhythms in percussion, even my Leftfield CD's (techno percussion). All sorts of celtic stuff.

I have the CD by The Poozies, & also 2 by Sileas, i.e. Mary McMaster & Patsy Seddon, which are representative of my love of out-of-the-ordinary, rollicking, funny, raucous, musically complex/interesting interpretations of Celtic & folk music. I heard a vinyl record by Gryphon about 20 years ago which I loved.

7. what cds have you really been wanting? I have decided to get more focused on learning music theory and this site, recommended by a Mudcatter, has a really good music theory CD-ROM. Gary Ewer's EASY MUSIC THEORY

http://www.musictheory.halifax.ns.ca/

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting? This one is too hard: I would really love a copy of Call Me Madam with Ethel Merman & Donald O'Connor, but I've done a search and it just isn't available any more.

Note: As alison pointed out we have the PAL system and not NTSC for VHS videos, so this is likely to be more trouble than it is worth, although my video player can play NTSC.

9. what is your t-shirt size? Medium to large Well, large is probably a better description.

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? No, but anything artistic, e.g. an art print by Monet, or a t-shirt with an art print on it.

I like all sorts of wooden instruments, or little instruments, e.g. I have a thumb piano (can't play it, but I have it!) and some different sorts of drums. I have 2 Celtic harps, a flute & a bodhran.

11. what are some of your other hobbies? drawing/painting with pastels, watercolour pencils. Computer graphics, digital art, etc Playing the harp (string-type harp)

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Doesn't matter.

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like

I love colours and art. My life revolves around that. I'm a very visual person.

I would love something specific to the Secret Santa's home town.

Helen

Lyrical Lady is still hiding from her Secret Santa. Anyone that knows her, please tell her gently and kindly that her secret santa is having many sleepless nights, and anxiety attacks, wondering just what she may have on her wish list!

I thought of sending her a PM, then discovered that I couldn't do so without revealing my true identity (which we all know is a horrible fate for Superman or secret santas)

Come on, Barb, just a few little hints?

your secret santa

Greetings all,

I can't figure out the Post Office website (surprise, surprise).

I guess I'll drop by my local p.o. and just ask how long a package will take to get to my Santee with various levels of cost.

By the way - here's some more hints for my Santa...

I like small interesting things. Maybe something to hang on the wall. Small statues - ancient goddesses or gods would be cool Neat pottery Travelogues - especially funky ones of your locality or someplace else your interested in. If you drink brewed items - some odd pub coasters would be nice. Live in a geologically interesting area - rocks - interesting rocks. Candles, incense - except flowery scents

By the way, I live in Central Florida (25 miles from Disney World). My personal website is:

http://members.tripod.com/blackcatter/

check it out and learn a bit more about me. I have the web's largest collection of TV Theme song lyrics, an extensive history of the city of Orlando as well as a few other things.

Here I is! All 48 years of me! Now, as to hints mmmm? I'm not that hard to please. My favorite colour to wear is black although I've been told that blue is my colour. I have long hair and I like little hair goo-gaws, I collect roosters of every discription except live ( that includes the 3 legged variety!) and I have Christmas decorations from all sorts of different places. I like little trinkety things that invoke special memories ...like that! Now if indeed my Secret Santa is from the UK ...I'd really like a can of Haggis!

Oh Oh OH ... I can hardly wait!

3 legged rooster... hmmm, ?

And haggis are most often seen hiding being those little clumps of tufty grass in the highland, only occasionally in the lower lands, and most prefer the clumpy tufty divots of grass that grow next to fence posts and hedgerows. A shy creature they are not often seen, but a shimmy in the divot often denotes the presence of a haggis, or if it is in the singular, a hagi.

Eating small insects they burrow into the grassy banks often taking over rabbit burrows.

I stopped by my post office yesterday (main branch because I was late sending a birthday card to my mother-in-law!) and asked them about sending packages to England. I really don't think the lady knew what she was doing, but after lots of looking and calculating, she said:

1) mail by Dec. 4 to get there by Christmas
2) a one-pound package would cost $8.20
3) a half-pound package would cost $6.40

Even though it's a little late for hints, I would love anything at all that was indicative of the catter's region. Like Alan said, even a rock! (I carried a special rock with me through several moves after I left Alabama.)

Nota Bene: For anybody to whom this is relevant, you need to VERY CAREFULLY check lists of prohibited items if you are sending internationally. Information can be found on Customs Department websites for the 'target' country (unfortunate word there, apologies) or the Post Office (for some reason) in the UK. (did you know that U.S.C. 18 states that USPS cannot carry alcohol in the mail, frex? eek)

Mary in Kentucky,

The lady in your Post Office does know what she is doing. The date and prices are correct. But the mailing date was determined before Sept. 11 and does not account for Oct 22 when Postal Workers began to die for while processing our mail.

I mailed my secret santa to the UK yesterday.

Mail as early as you can.

What are the online book & recording stores for OZ & UK?

It seems to me another way to get around deadlines & problems for overseas shipping it to order online from services in the country of destination, if it's available there.

If you want to send a CD to someone in the US, I'd ask you to order from Dick or Sandy & let them mail it. Use Amazon or Barnes & Nobel for books. Your credit card company will take care of the currency conversion.

OK, the truth is that I want to know if my giftee can get a certain book at home & I can't figure out any other way to check.

I know Amazon has a UK site, don't know about Oz. Sure, you can use the vendor's shipping option... but I wanta put in a photo and a note and all that. Make it personal and such.

Hmm. Rocks. Tennessee is FULL of rocks. Nashville was once known as Rock City (not to be confused with the Chattanooga-area tourist attraction of the same name, which is actually sort of fun,in a cheesy way). I kid you not. The first year Mister and I had a garden, we dug up lots of rocks. But not just rocks, gentle friends, oh no, these were SLABS. And when new housing complexes go up, you should see the rocks that surface!

But I digress.

Let me just thank Clinton for the Secret Santa idea, even if he did once say I should be shot at the next Civil War reenactment... ;-)

Greetings all

My guess is that the reason libations are a no-no to send is because of the tariffs and such attached to them. Not for any health or other reason, but I could be wrong. Alcohol is sent all the time (legally and illegally) without deliterious effects (to the mail).

I have received Black Death from Iceland a few times over the years, and another friend sent me a couple bottles of single malt from Scotland this last Summer.

Maybe some people would like some Everclear if their Santa is from the (late) Confederate States...

I guess I'll have to get working on the gift for my Santee.

I heard on the news that the USPS will start irradiating the mail. Does anyone know what effect this might have on food products we might ship like chocolate, syrups, jams, etc.?

Re the alcohol part. Here's the USPS information:
Intoxicating liquors having 0.5 percent or more alcoholic content are nonmailable. This includes taxable liquors with 3.2 percent or less alcohol, as well as those obtained under a prescription or as a collector's item. The prohibition of the mailing of intoxicating liquors is contained in federal law (18 U.S.C. 1716).

Title 18 U.S. Code
§ 1716. Injurious articles as nonmailable
(f) All spirituous, vinous, malted, fermented, or other intoxicating liquors of any kind are nonmailable and shall not be deposited in or carried through the mails.

That's the law. Obviously people ship it all the time with no problem. They might stop you if you list it on a customs declaraton form.

Hi Burke

Thanks for the info.

As to irradiation - A lot of foods are irradiated every day it is done to kill bacteria and doesn't really hurt anything else (at least that's what they tell us.

I'm not sure what form of radiation they use. Many places use ultra violet currently - and that kiils anthrax quite well. The poblem is that it cannot pass through nearly all envelopes and packages and more that visible light can, in fact it doesn't past through clear glass all that well either.

Would you kindly furnish your Santa with the following information.

How many camels can be stabled at your dwelling place?

Are there separate bathroom facilities for Men, Sloe-eyed houris and Eunuchs? If not, can portable facilities be arranged?

How close are you to the exit ramp off the interstate that leads to Far Samarkand?

And lastly, do you have an icehouse large enough for the storage of two or more chocolate-covered llamas?

Your response is awaited. Answer wisely.

My most dead glam piece of rock is a purple one from the top of a volcano that my dad got for me... I couldn't walk to the top with him as I started getting altitude sickness (I was only young), so he got me it... awww bless.

I have various rocks in the car from all over the place...

My dearest Pseudo Santa....Here are the answers to your questions.....

How many camels can be stabled at your dwelling place?
I have a drawer that can hold about ten packs, unless they're the 100's, then maybe eight.....but what do I care, I don't smoke!!

Are there separate bathroom facilities for Men, Sloe-eyed houris and Eunuchs? If not, can portable facilities be arranged?
We have a men's room for the men, the Houris can use the great outdoors and naturally the Eunuchs can use the Ladies Room.....

How close are you to the exit ramp off the interstate that leads to Far Samarkand?
Since I live in the second smallest state in the states, we're not close to anything! Although I'd walk a mile for a camel....oh wait, I forgot, I don't smoke....besides let the camel do his own damn walking!!

And lastly, do you have an icehouse large enough for the storage of two or more chocolate-covered llamas?
Hey, you get'em here, we'll store 'em!!!!

Good question - if we get our prezzies early, do they go with the rest of the celebration or are we allowed to open them now?

Elaborating:

Favorite color is still purple, preferably on the fuschia or magenta side, for things made to wear or display.
T-shirt size as many Xs L as they get, but please nothing about 9.11, however peripheral.
I do wear a single earring, only gold or gold-colored, I like dangles and hoops and studs but nothing too heavy.
My age and gender are elaborate enough
And while I do read mysteries, I am also usting after several new books reviewed in Science News, if my SS gets that - there is one on concsiousness, one on language - I like biopsycholinguisics more than physics...
And, as I said, I really like very dark chocolate, perhaps coffee- or mocha-flavored, no nuts no creams no jellies, they waste space that could be filled with more chocolate. I prefer Belgian to Swiss chocolate for the milk content, or lack thereof. I really like those dark Toblerone thingies, for example. But I try not to keep a lot of chocolate in the house, the boys find it and then I have no chocolate... But I have an office where I can store it safely!

This has led to me being banned from said establishment, with the threat of repossession of my reindeers. I have since found you a lovely gift - not in any way vulgar or tacky - no, no, no! Sorry about the lack of porn though - none of the elves would take the photos for me.
