We heard this by a group called Hen Party and Marion learned it from them. I believe One of the group took part in the show written by Mick Ryan so they should be fairly close to the original. Hope I've done better this time Joe. you gave me a flea in the ear for my last set of lyrics *BG* |

Subject: Lyr Add: FLANDERS TOMMY (Mick Ryan) From: GUEST,John Prentice Date: 14 Nov 01 - 04:30 AM These are the words I used on my album. They were taken from one of Mick's albums. I realise that they are not the words used in the show, but Mick often changes the lyrics and so there may be more than one version of the song. FLANDERS TOMMY
Come, come to Flanders Tommy, come, come to France
Come, come to Flanders Tommy,
Smack down in the battle, Tommy,
Trenches and shellfire, Tommy,
Drowning in the mire, Tommy,
The girls`ll wave and cheer us, Tommy,
Come, come to Flanders Tommy, come, come to France |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Flanders Tommy (Mick Ryan) From: GUEST,Freebird Date: 21 Aug 14 - 09:14 AM When is the 'folk world' (folk world or,at least only mudcat going to realise what a genius Mick Ryan is, as a singer and writer. I Remember in the seventies, how he was always called the folk scene's most underrated singer. That is really annoying and ridiculous and he needs more journalistic.. and (normal people) recognition. |
Subject: Lyr Add: FLANDERS TOMMY (Mick Ryan) From: Jim Dixon Date: 22 Aug 14 - 11:30 PM Here's how the song appears on the official album of the musical. The song comes in two parts. The first part comes after an opening poem "It's All in a Day's Work" which begins: "The great Duke of Wellington, great British hero,/Stood on the ramparts and stared out to sea...." The second part comes later in the album, as cut 13 of 23. I heard it on Spotify: FLANDERS TOMMY Written by Mick Ryan As sung by Pete Morton, Paul Downes, Greg Russell, and Maggie Boyle on "A Day's Work" (WildGoose, 2014). PART 1 1. Come, come to Flanders, Tommy. Come, come to France. Follow your commanders, Tommy. Come join the dance. CHORUS: Come, come beat the drum, lad; hear the music play. Come, son; take up your gun and march, march away. Come, son; take up your gun and march, march away. 2. The girls will wave and cheer us, Tommy.... The enemy will fear us, Tommy.... CHORUS 3. Come, come to Flanders, Tommy.... They'll march us and brass-band us, Tommy.... CHORUS PART 2 4. Come, come to battle, Tommy.... Driven on like cattle, Tommy.... CHORUS 5. Bayonets and barbed wire, Tommy Trenches and shellfire, Tommy.... CHORUS 6. Drowning in the mire, Tommy.... Bodies piling higher, Tommy.... CHORUS |
