Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: InOBU Date: 14 Dec 01 - 08:52 AM Yup... the dinner was absoultly magic. Genie and I were saying how often folks we meet from mudcat or just "our kind of folks" in the best way. Steve and I had a good talk about the real need to create new folk venues in New York, John and Kate were wonderful and increased our limited knowlege of Hull, which seems to have a much more organised folk sceene than NYC... and John and I found we have a few hobbies in common, lots more likely but the evening went far to quickly. With eight million New Yorkers though, we have to do better about creating a folk scene that is welcoming and can pay the bills. So, perhaps Mudcat and Mudcat visits are a good organising start. Season's best John and Kate, and Mary and Dan and Steve and all... Larry (Genie says HI!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: Suffet Date: 13 Dec 01 - 10:02 PM Sinsull, I'm feeling OK. But thanks for the warning. Et tu, InOBU? Get yourself better, and perhaps I'll see you at the Peoples' Voice on January 5th. That's still a ways off. Meanwhile, Brother Fred says hello. John and Kate, good meeting you. Maybe me 'n' the missus will say howdy if we make it to the UK this coming summer. --- Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: GUEST,Smallpiper still at work Date: 13 Dec 01 - 11:33 AM Sinsull we're still both fine Kate's still got a bit of a cough and a long weekend in New York is not enough next time we'll take a few weeks. Hope you're feeling better soon. John |
Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: SINSULL Date: 12 Dec 01 - 01:11 PM Great dinner - great food and wonderful company. Kate and John amazed us with their whirlwind tour of NYC - nobody comes from Europe for a long weekend! The evening serenade on a street corner topped it off. Finally got to meet Steve Suffet who turned out to be the brother of a friend I have known for years - small world. Now for the bad news - the next day I gave in and went to a doctor about my perennial cold. It is strep - hope I haven't infected anyone. Just what a group of singers need. Sorry. |
Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: GUEST,smallpiper back at work Date: 12 Dec 01 - 09:31 AM My computer is still dead. So two stolen minutes at work. We had a great dinner Larry,Genie, Sinsul and Steve turned out for the dinner which was great and yes it was just like being at a family gathering. What loverley people. Larry and Steve ended up doing a few tunes on the street afterwards in the middle of Hells Kitchen - Fabulous. More when I get my computer back. We love New York and next time I'm definately bringing my pipes. Keep in touch guys. John |

Lovely fellow. It is funny that Mudcatters always seem like family when we meet. Cheers Larry |

Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: Mrrzy Date: 03 Dec 01 - 12:54 PM Well, InOBU met my train which was GREAT, we had a nice little walk around lower Manhattan to blow off some twin steam climbing all over things and seeing Miss Liberty, still one of my VERY favorite statues in the world. We three (kids and self) were then ORGANIZED into amazing things by our hosts, and had no time at all, even though I'd been hoping to have that evening while most folks went to services, turns out most folks didn't and we all went to the hotel bar and partied there... So I was delighted to meet InOBU, who's wonderful and so is his lovely whose office we took over with stuff... but I was sorry not to be able to connect with Sinsull or anyone else! Maybe next time! |
Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: Mrrzy Date: 29 Nov 01 - 10:27 AM I lied to poor InOBU by mistake, I actually arrive Friday at 1:55. I have a dinner early Fri eve, but then the group will go to synagogue and I will go back to the hotel, put the boys down, and HOPE SOMEBODY (Sins?) CAN VISIT ME! With a musical instrument or a voice or something... so I'm not in the tonight thing, sorry! |

Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: InOBU Date: 20 Nov 01 - 06:05 PM I'll phone the restaurant, thought on a Thurday night there should not be a big hassle to get a table. So, lets do a count, There is my Genie and I... Mr and Ms. Smallpiper... others check in and I will reserve a table. Cheers Larry |
Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: smallpiper Date: 20 Nov 01 - 11:52 AM 7 pm sounds great to me. Do we need to book and how many are coming? |
Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: InOBU Date: 20 Nov 01 - 07:27 AM Hi Guys... let's see, Meskerem is at 468 West 47th Street tel 664 0520 (1 212 first if you are out of Mannhattan). If you are in mid town, the theater district, walk west on 47th street a few blocks, to around 9th Ave. I believe this is just before 9th between 8th and 9th on 47th. New York is on a square numeric grid, so it is very easy to find your way around. For the most part, numered streets start at 1st street, about 1/4 of the way up the island, and proceed getting higher as one goes from south to north. So downtown, south the numbers get smaller, uptown, north the numbers get higher. Then the avenunes, first Ave is east, and the numbers get higher as you go west (towards California). The streets are devided east to west at 5th Ave. So west 47th street is west of 5th, and one can guess that the numbers get higher by 100 as you proceed west, so the four hundered block will be around 9th. So the first thursday in December, we will be at Meskerem, say 7 pm? Cheers Larry |
Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: GUEST,smallpiper at work Date: 20 Nov 01 - 05:08 AM Good oh now I need the location of this wee place |

Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: smallpiper Date: 19 Nov 01 - 02:24 PM Hey Guys Mrs S was wondering if you could supply info on things to do and see that arn't the normal touristy things and how about Thursday night for the meal? John |
Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: Mrrzy Date: 19 Nov 01 - 08:54 AM Sinsull - LaGuardia, indeed! Wow! I wonder if I can catch anything on the Internet from the hotel... |
Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: GUEST Date: 19 Nov 01 - 06:14 AM Sorry to hear about the folks, Dan, I have only one parent, also in her eighties, but rather healthy and fiesty! If it fits the schedual, hope to see you, as the best way to get food to Ethiopian people is to share a meal with their families here in the US. I am in need of a little mudcat food, myself, in particular, a cookie. Larry sans Cookie PS We would be happy to work around your schdual Dan, as it would be great to get as many catters together for a meal as possible, especially so few are here in New York. |
Subject: RE: BS: Visiting NYC From: Liam's Brother Date: 18 Nov 01 - 09:07 PM Larry, with sick octogenarian parents, the wife and I rarely able commit weeks in advance.
