Pete Seeger, friends and family, are scheduled to perform at the Kennedy Center Millenium stage, 11/30 at 6pm Over the long holiday weekend, I found myself taping a 1958 Folkways recording of Songs of the USA voyager |
Subject: RE: BS: Pete Seeger Tribute (Washington DC) From: GUEST,Upstreeter Date: 28 Nov 01 - 07:53 AM Hello, You might like to know that English traditional singer Bob Copper hs been in New York City to record a discussion with Pete Seeger for a programme for the BBC to be broadcast in the new year. Should be an interesting programme as they're roughly the same age (Pete is a little younger) and they come to folk music from entirely different perspectives. For those of you in the U.S. you should be able to hear the show on the BBC website. |

TRIBUTE TO PETE SEEGER
"In celebration of the 24th Kennedy Center Honors, the Millennium Stage pays tribute to 1994 Honoree Pete Seeger on Friday, November 30, at 6:00 p.m.
The program of film, words, and music will feature members of Seeger's family and friends including Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, grandson of Pete Seeger, as well as Sarah Lee Guthrie, granddaughter of Woody Guthrie. The program is free; no tickets are required." Kathy's note: the Millennium Stage is in the lobby of the Kennedy Center. If you're planning to come, it would be a very good idea to get there VERY early, since I know they've invited a lot of VIPs to this event. Pete Seeger WILL be there, my source tells me. |

Subject: RE: Pete Seeger Tribute (Washington DC) From: KathWestra Date: 30 Nov 01 - 10:06 AM Art, I'll be there with Joe Hickerson, who will join the tribute by singing "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" with Pete. We will give him your greetings. I hope there are LOTS of people there to honor someone who has done so much, not only for folk music, but for the causes of peace, the environment, and social justice. We need his example in these times. |
Subject: RE: Pete Seeger Tribute (Washington DC) From: Kerstin Date: 30 Nov 01 - 10:35 AM For me Pete Seeger is the greatest!! I have been listning to his songs for 35 years, and they will never get old ( only I am ). The message about peace in the world is always up to date, but he never gives up singing his wonderful songs. Thank you Pete Seeger! |
Subject: RE: Pete Seeger Tribute (Washington DC) From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 30 Nov 01 - 04:01 PM As one who signed 'Keep Pete Seeger Out Of Jail' petitions I'm delighted to see him being recognised this way. In the UK we could never understand why a man we saw as personifying all that was good about America should be so reviled there. We thought the same about Paul Robeson I might add. Kathy, have a great time there. Give my regards to Joe. And if anybody records the occasion....well, you know where I live. Love. Burl |
Subject: RE: Pete Seeger Tribute (Washington DC) From: sc Date: 01 Dec 01 - 12:15 AM Burl, the video is available for free viewing over the internet Click to open a window to the site. I was a very young child during the McCarthy years - spent my time watching cool shows like "I Led Three Lives" so I appreciate people like you (took a lot courage to just sign a petition in those years) & Seeger for slaying the dragon and salvaging a bit of freedom for us all! Peace! |
