Sun Didn't Shine Out On Be-yonder Mountain

Cho.
The sun didn't shine out on be-yonder mountain (3 times)
When my Lord was dyin' on the cross.

Oh, Pilot's wife, she had a dream
About an innocent man she'd never seen.
Bring me a bowl an' let me wash my hand,
I won't be guilty 'bout an innocent man.
Cho.

Probably condensed from a longer version. Liberty Hill High School Quartet, near Merryville, LA.

The above now indexed in the African-American Spirituals Permathread. If more lyrics (with titles other than the above) are added in this thread, please help us index them by posting the song title and thread URL to the Permathread. Thanks.

I think it may have been The Golden Gate Quartet's version which opened-

Well, the sun didn't shine down on Calvary's mountain

Lhiats,

Bobby Bob

Yes, Bobby Bob, you're right...The Golden Gates did start the song with that line. What an amazing recording ..as were all their early 40;s material..but 'The Sun Didnt Shine', (along with 'Jezebel',) is one of the most spine-tingling acapella songs Ive ever heard. PJC

They crucified my Lord
They nailed Him to a tree
They hammered His hands and they hammered His feet
The hammering was heard in Jerusalem's streets.

Well the sun didn't shine down on Calvary's mountain(repeat 3 times
When my Lord was dying on the cross.
