Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Dave Wynn Date: 07 Dec 01 - 08:00 PM Just got back from the Friday night sesion. Some bloody good singing. Some really nice people...... Why can't the world always be like this.... Spot (having an alcohol induced philosphy attack...but sobriety will fix that) |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Dave Wynn Date: 08 Dec 01 - 09:16 PM It fixed it!.......(the philosophy attack) Today I watched Micca doing a three song set. He was good , witty and looked happy......I may be speaking out of turn here but I think the hugs and wishes from you guys(and gals) did the trick. Who ever would have said that Mudcat can't influence people!!! I will be seeing them all on Sunday Lunchtime. Can't wait.... Spot. |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: 8_Pints Date: 08 Dec 01 - 09:16 PM I can't believe we're the first to post after an amazing day at the Manchester meet! (How sad are we!!) We loved the singing at both the White Lion and the Ducie, and the curry was excellent, not to mention the company. Thanks everyone for making it a very memorable day. See you all soon, Sue and Bob vG xxxxx

Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: GUEST,Yvonne Date: 09 Dec 01 - 09:43 AM As an "outsider" to Mudcat I would like to thank everyone for making me feel welcome on Friday and Saturday night. Most of all I would like to thank you all for the pleasure of hearing so many beautiful, varied voices. Liked your King of Rome,Micca!and Liz the squeak really does squeak!? but not when she sings--lovely voice. I am practicing my harmonies Teresa--but I think the problem I am having is something to do with my brain!! All I need to know now is--when are you doing it again? and can I come too? |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: GUEST,HelenJ Date: 09 Dec 01 - 01:51 PM Great weekend. Hope to make it to Stony Stratford Micca, you'll have to persuade JJ and I can tag along. Lots of lovely people (think I said that about Llan Fair) but what the heck - I'm saying it again. Love to all - can't wait to see everyone again. HelenJ. |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: treaties1 Date: 09 Dec 01 - 02:26 PM Thanks Dave and Spot, I had a great time. The indian was an inspired idea and it was great to see everyone. Time, money and lifts being OK I would love to come to the next Mudcat Meet, (you too Yvonne, then we can practice our harmonies together) Theresa |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Matthew Edwards Date: 09 Dec 01 - 04:40 PM It was lovely to meet everyone on Saturday, and to hear so many wonderful songs. I would have to say that MCFat's choice of the Shaandaar was inspired because the singing afterwards at the Ducie (in spite of the heat!) was absolutely wonderful! The ending, led by Mrs Duck, in a choral singing of "Rolling Home" was fantastic, but everyone there - no doubt fuelled by the curry - seemed to sing really well. It was nice to hear Yvonne's voice, and I hope she will join us again soon. It was great to see Micca there looking in good spirits (and drinking good spirits as well!). Thanks to everyone who made this so successful - and a special thanks to Bob and Sue for making this a great weekend for me. I'm sorry not to have got to the Sunday session, hope it went well. |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 09 Dec 01 - 05:03 PM We had a geat day and even the thick fog on the motorway didn't dampen the spirits as we drove home. Loved all the singing and seeing everyone again. Roll on February! |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 09 Dec 01 - 07:40 PM Got back at 10.15, after a hellish journey in either thick fog (about 80% of the trip) or spankingly crisp starlight, and via Leeds to pick up two new kitties! As I type I can hear the bass notes of a cat on the piano, I may have to go and close the lid in a minute! They were very well behaved, and close inspection reveals that they didn't disgrace themselves, so the smell in the car was ALL your fault, Micca. Thanks to Treaties1 for letting me stay in bed so long and for making a wonderful weekend even more fantastic. See you all soon. LTS

Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 10 Dec 01 - 05:18 AM Thanks to everyone I enjoyed Saturday cos it had everything I needed , good songs , good company, good beer, good food (glad you all liked the place), plus I had some quality time with my sproglet. I hope Sunday went well. The bonus for the weekend is that no-one asked me for a train ticket either from Doncaster to Swinton on Sat or from Manchester to Sheffield on Sunday so it cost me about £1.50 return !! If I had tried to blag the fare that wouldn't have happened I'd have been surrounded by Waffen SS guards saying 'Vey're are your papers ?' but I go prepared to pay and no bugger wants my dosh, no wonder Railtrack went bust !!! Thanks to John for the lift and every one else. I can't make Stony as I'm going to Italy on the Saturday which is a shame as I used to live down that way and it would bring back some mammeries oops sorry memories. pip pip James |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Dave the Gnome Date: 10 Dec 01 - 01:00 PM Well - have only just managed to post now because I was in no fit state to last night and I have been working away all day. Thanks to everyone who came, sang, listened, laughed and everything else. It made it a very special weekend. After everyone had left the Lion yesterday and just me, Spot and non-mudcating Mike were left it was felt very depressing. But we made up for it by partaking in lots more fine Robin bitter:-) Well, until I fell off the chair anyway, but thats another story...! Off to the folk club soon and I'll see if the echo of the weekend still lingers. Thanks again and hoping to meet you all again soon. Dave the Gnome |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Yvonne Date: 10 Dec 01 - 01:48 PM Thank you Matthew, I would love to join you all again. Teresa, after lots of dreadful sounding harmony in my home over the last 24 hours, I am more than happy to leave it to those of you who know how to do it! As you can see I have joined Mudcat---after being urged and cajoled by Helen! |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Linda Kelly Date: 10 Dec 01 - 02:52 PM Thanks for wonderful company and friendship - the cold nd nosebleeds have disappeared nd I only have the bronchitus to contend with. Not even this could dampen a wonderful weekend! |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: GUEST,helenJ Date: 10 Dec 01 - 04:26 PM After a wonderful W/E I have to add that I had a 'phone call from Jo Kerins - the lad who runs the Jolly Angler - tonight. He is running a carol "service" at the 'Jolly' on Christmas Eve. I said I'd put his message out on the Mudcat. Jo has vast knowledge of folklore; a wonderful voice and is your regular Irish folk singer. So - Mudcatters - here is your opportunity to have your name in lights and once more , put MANCHESTER ON THE MAP. Wassail all, HelenJ. |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: 8_Pints Date: 10 Dec 01 - 05:58 PM Thank you DtG for all your hard work in organising such a successful week-end. Helen, the Jolly Angler sounds good to me. I'll mention it to the management in the morning. Bob vG |

Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Yvonne Date: 11 Dec 01 - 02:20 PM Mrs Duck could you please tell me the title of the wonderful song you sang at the Ducie, about three soldiers? Thanks |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Matthew Edwards Date: 11 Dec 01 - 02:37 PM Lovely photos Micca. Alio's partner is Geoff (or Jeff?) Sorry you didn't make it, Morticia - but there's still Stony to come. Should I alert the inhabitants to round up all the stray cats, now that you and Liz have started a tradition of bringing cats home after a gathering? (I'm sure I sent this message earlier on today - but it must have got lost in cyberspace.) |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Noreen Date: 11 Dec 01 - 03:46 PM Yes, it's Geoff, Matthew- I was just about to chip in with that. Enjoyed seeing the pics, Micca, thanks. Glad it went well. Noreen |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Dave Wynn Date: 11 Dec 01 - 08:21 PM It was one of those Mudcat sessions where the room or location was not important. The people there made it what it was. I met no strangers...just new friends.....If I can convince D 't' Gnome to make the trip I think we will be at Stony. Love you all... (specially nice to manage to shake Micca's hand before he was driven away by LTS...I was called into work that afternoon and drove like a nutter to get to the Lion before they left)... Spot. |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Alio Date: 12 Dec 01 - 05:48 AM Only just come back on line as I've been in Leicester - saw Noreen last night, who told me about the photos. Sorry we couldn't make it on Sunday, but Geoff (yes, it is Geoff, and he says "hi" to everyone) had 2 callouts for work - to Liverpool and the Wirral!! We thoroughly enjoyed Friday and Saturday - thanks for organising it. We're definitely going to get along to Swinton in the New Year - it's not as far from Saddleworth as I thought! Thanks for the invite to Stony Stratford (where is it?) - we'd love to see you all again. Have a good Christmas! |

Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 12 Dec 01 - 07:09 PM Spot - I notice I didn't get so much as a "kiss me 'and" from you, and I had to drive the smelly old bugger all the way to Leeds and back down to London! The kitties are settling, Max like he's always lived here, Amber being a bit more reticent.... Shadow just glares at them and gives me the silent treatment (except when her bowl is empty..... Hmmmmm!) LTS |
Subject: RE: Mudcats Meet in Manchester Dec 2001 From: GUEST,Spot (at the Kennels) Date: 13 Dec 01 - 11:55 AM Sorry Liz. It was truly my loss. I owe you a kiss next time we meet. Spot |
