I know I've seen it discussed here, in other threads ... but I can't find the appropriate discussions. Who has the best on-line proces for guitar/banjo strings?

Well the only place I use that has a website is Halshaw music but he doesn't have an online process as such (we usually phone). Sully is very reliable though and I know I can always get the tenor banjo guages I want in strings I like from there.

I buy Rogue Guitar strings on line from musicians friend, great strings, fantastic prices 12 string $2.50 6 string $1.79.

Searched many uk sites, still go to music room for mine. Or you can buy on line from their site. Buy 6 sets and you sane almost the cost of a full set, which ain't bad I reckon. BUT like everything else, it's much cheaper out of UK!

I was looking for something else - typical.

Big City String Co. has Elixers for $12.95. Their prices on other strings look very good, too, but I remember somebody around here saying they liked Elixers.

I read a thread some 12 months ago and bought 12 sets posted from USA to UK and the service was super.

I got them from www.fqms.com First Quality Music Supplies.

I am not in any way connected with them just a customer but they sent me a catalogue this week from a 50 dollar order last year.

When it's less expensive and better service for me to buy from the USA using post it doesn't say much for our suppliers in the uk.

(on the other hand it DOES say a lot for your suppliers in the USA.)

Just Strings is generally pretty good as a source. Currently Elixirs are at $11.50 per set. Sometimes there is a quantity discount too. You still using Elixir Jed?

Here's a link to Musician's Friend...........Using Elixir as a comparison, ther's are 12.99 per set. Lots of stuff though.....I get their catalog and it's a fun one to have.

Dear Catters, Catspaw was right. JustStrings.com is a great site with great prices and I've used them 3-4 times now with great success. Won't shop anywhere else , right now. I use Elixir and D'Addario Medium phosphur bronze.

Stupid question maybe, but what about Elixir makes one want to pay 6 times as much??

Yes, Spaw I'm still using Elixers. I hated 'em at first, but the damn things just last - so I got used to 'em!

Why pay 6 times the price, Jack? Because they last 10 times as long. They sound pretty good (not great), BUT they sound pretty good as long as you leave 'em on! I can't last a night with uncoated strings - they go completely dead on me (they last a little longer in the winter, but Texas doesn't have much winter). So if I can keep a set on my guitar for a few weeks maybe even a month - I'm pretty damn happy about it. I play a lot, and I can;t afford to change my strings several times a month. Elixers solve that problem for me.

Mister and I get a lot of strings for guitar and fiddle from Elderly Instruments. The prices are competitive and they usually have something else I want to order. ;-) Only had a problem once, they sent me the wrong size strings, but they fixed it right away.

Kim I actually did buy 'em from Elderley. Looks like I paid a few dollars more 'en I needed to, if Spaw's quote is correct ... but not too bad.

I like poking around on Elderley's site, too .. but these days I'm too poor to even enjoy looking!
