Some "Catters" may be interested and pleased to note that those great veterans of the music stage Liam Clancy and Tommy Makem have recently been the recipients of Honorary Doctorates of Letters from the University of Limerick, Ireland. Never, I reckon, were there two more worthy of such recognition. What do you guys think? Beach

Good on 'em both. Well deserved say I, as a "life-time achievement" award.

Not only has it a university ( Click here ) but that university houses the Irish World Music Centre, headed by one Micheál Ó Suilleabháin. Check it out!

Tommy is the Bard of Armagh in my book. He is a repository of countless songs and tunes as well as his mother Sarah. They are both treasures.

Liam is a beautiful singer as well and why not honor him? He's also a good actor. ( I don't mean a bad actor who's trying to be a singer either.) He's good at both. He plays tasteful guitar as well.

Frank

It is always harder to gain honour in your own backyard.
But it is all the nicer when you do.

You could not find any better. I have been a fan since I was old enough to ask my parents to play "that" record for me again. Not just congratulations to them from me but a heart felt "thank you", too.

Tommy and Liam went down,
To get theirs in Limerick town,
Their music so bright,
And hormonies tight,
Made it a cinch that this would go down !!!
