I finally made it into the "folk music" room on PalTalk. Great fun, good people, wonderful music. Like the old HearMe sessions...though there doesn't seem to be as much of the side chatter, which some people (not me!) are probably happy about.

Technical note: I recently got a cable modem with RoadRunner, and promptly installed the ZoneAlarm firewall, having been forewarned on a Mudcat thread some time ago of the dangers of non-dial-up connections. But I couldn't hear anybody on PalTalk! I finally figured out I had to lower my ZoneAlarm security level to "medium" in order to hear sounds.

Aloha,
Mark

I have got to second that one - or maybe third and fourth it - Some excellent music and it is great to be able to put voices to the words I see on the screen. Probably the best circle I've been in since I started this journey. Thanks for inviting me Frank -

I wish I could figure out how to install Paltalk. It always says it isn't there when I try to.

Go to (Paltalk) and left click on download - the rest should be pretty automatic.

Ah Allison....Join up with Bill D. and I. Both of us have a similar problem and both are running pretty updated computers and all of that. Somewhere along the line my PalTalk download got screwed up and now, no matter what I try, I can't get the program back. It's a bummer. Bill has something pretty similar going on too and we've both just about tossed in the towel.

That is so weird - I have uninstalled mine to update and when I went back to redownload it (twice now) - I just start like I am a new user and it loads up with all of my old information intact - even though I know it was deleted off the puter when the hard drive was reformatted. Did you understand what Mark was talking about with his problems from last night? Are they similar?

Sorry I missed you, Mark! I haven't made it in to too many of them, lately. I usually just shut down my Zone Alarm, didn't know I just needed to put it on medium, instead. Thanks!

Yeah Steve....I too run Zone Alarm and that doesn't seem to be the problem. Perhaps there is something in the fact that the first download wasn't right and now when I try to reload, that part of the program still is there........I dunno'......I figure sometime we may move on to a newer or different program as has happened before and the next one will work.

In order to get the upgrade successfully downloaded I had to close down ZoneAlarm, InoculateIT and my screensaver, and even then had to try the download at least a dozen times. Eventually the persistence paid off and I've had no problems since(X - CROSSING FINGERS)
KAT - its best to turn the ZoneAlarm settings to low ... even on medium you may still have problems.

spaw,

I can't see anything other than the registry entries that get left behind when you uninstall Paltalk. Did't you try removing them? Dave O posted some detailed instructions once - it worked for him but Bill D remained stuck.

We never know what is around the corner with computers but the way things are looking, a move from Paltalk doesn't seem likely in the near future. It would still be nice to find something that supported Mac users as well as PC users though.

I got rid of Zone Alarm. It did still cause me problems with Paltalk on medium and also caused problems with my Sygate internet sharing software. I now use the Sygate Firewall which is free for personal use and can be downloaded from http://www.sygate.com/free/spf_download.htm.

For those times when there's no specific Mudcat room running, I turn to one of a number of rooms that come up, all with the word "live" in their title. The best one currently running, for my money, is called KatRose's Live Room, more or less. In the evenings (Mudcat time) it's almost always one of the biggest rooms on Paltalk, and thus highest on the list that comes up.

DW is also opening a room now on a fairly regular basis. I found a smaller room down below but can't recall the name of it - I'm with you Dave - "Live" gets me in.

There's an amazing diversity of talent in the "live" rooms. I think they are great and would love more people to experience them.

Thanks, nutty. I usually just shut it down altogether.

I had a blast in BIGBOYINDIAN'S POWWOW JAM room the other night - all powwow music and some wicked humour.

Also, sang a bit in the Native American Flute and Drum one and they were very nice about it. Got a chance to dust of some Mother Earth wimmin's songs.:-)

Seeing as the live rooms have got a well deserved mention... Have just popped into "Freedom Riders" for a last night listen while a have a coffee before bed. Some great music going there.
