Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Molly Molly oh by gee by golly From: GUEST Date: 11 Dec 01 - 11:15 PM Could the line be oh me, oh my, Miss Molly, I'm in love with you? If it is, then it is Miss Molly by Bob Wills, about 1940. I don't have the words handy at the moment. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Molly Molly oh by gee by golly From: GUEST,a son Date: 12 Dec 01 - 06:53 AM My 85 year old mother remembers it from no later than the 30's. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Molly Molly oh by gee by golly From: Jim Dixon Date: 18 Dec 01 - 02:27 PM OH! BY JINGO! was previously posted here along with a link to the sheet music. I think this is one of those popular songs that have entered the folk tradition, that is, given rise to lots of variants. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Molly Molly oh by gee by golly From: Artful Codger Date: 23 Jul 07 - 05:19 PM To hear "Oh! By Jingo", rent/borrow the Jeeves & Wooster episode "Trouble at Totleigh Towers" (from the fourth season of the Hugh Laurie/Stephen Fry BBC series). The episode begins with Hugh Laurie playing the beginning, to half-way through the first chorus, and ends with the major characters giving a spirited rendition ensemble. In another episode (anyone know which?), Laurie plays the seldom-heard introduction to "Nagasaki". |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Molly Molly oh by gee by golly From: GUEST,S.E.Lepp. Date: 16 Oct 10 - 06:38 PM It's one in which he is engaged to Lady Florence Craye- I don't remember which -but I do remember her coming up right after and asking if it was him making all that racket... Or I might be making things up.... That would be the First episode now that I think of it (Jeeves Takes Charge). Which I don't think it is... :/ |
