A while back some people where asking about software that would change a midi file to a .wav file to allow recording onto CD. I have come across the following program called Wingroove and have used it - it works. It available at the following site http://www.wg7.com/en/ or http://www.wg7.com/en/wgdl.html if you want to download it. Its shareware at $20, its well worth it. It works with all versions of windows. I've no connection with the software writer other than I use it.

I just use MusicMatch (free) to make MP3s, then use the software that came with my CD burner (EasyCD Recorder) to record the MP3s as music files on a CD. I managed to archive my tunes on a CD.

I visited the MusicMatch site and didn't see anywhere that it converted midi(.mid) files to enable them to be put on to CD. I've tried a few CD burner packages and they all refused to cope with midi files. Maybe you could try it for me and see if MusicMatch puts a midi (.mid) file onto a CD. I've a few programs that rip tracks from CD's and others allow you to compile a new CD from .wav and .mp3 files - however even though they play midi files they will not burn them to CD. Here's where dozens of people say they have software that 'works' for them :-)

Mike, the MusicMatch can creat MP3s from MIDIs, and it also will put the MP3s on a CD. It won't go straight from MIDI to CD, though.

Any program you have that can record MP3 or .wav files can be used to record MIDIs. If you can record stuff from your mic, you can record straight from your sound card. You just have to find out what your system uses for a "mixer" and set the record source to the sound card. (On my system, it's a little figure 8 loop thingie.)

I seem to be having a problem with MusicMatch not recognising my CD-RW drive, but I don't know if that's a program problem. I didn't have a CD-RW drive when I installed MusicMatch. Not a problem for me, because I rather like the CD recording software that came with the drive.

Actually, MusicMatch will record anything that comes through your computer's audio software. If you set your MIDI drivers to play through your speakers instead of your synthesizer I think you can record your MIDI file as either a WAV file or an MP3. I often use MusicMatch to make MP3 copies of things I have on tape.

Interesting. The real point with MIDI is that it is basically a score or set of instructions which are carried out by a MIDI instrument(s), e.g. A sound card or a keyboard and the sounds produced are dependent on that device - you don't really convert MIDI to wav - more like record how MIDI sounds on a particular set of instruments.

I see this program has it's own software synth - it might play (and of course save as wave) better sounding music than some soundcards built in synthesisers.

No time at the moment Jeri - just having a read before bed (I hope).

I had a hard disk die on me earlier this week and am still putting bits back. Also, I started trying to install Debian Linux today - having problems with the graphics (monitor settings) and probably more if and when I get round that bit...

Funny thing - I only sent two posts before this one,the first and the third. I'm over in Belfast and I posted in late on Sat night, when I checked Cat this morning. I thought I must have been using the computer in my sleep. Some brainless gormless smartarse git has used my 'post' name to stir things up. Thats a great idea he/she could do a post then reply to themselves all night long and leave everyone else alone.

Those who know me in Mudcat know I wouldn't reply as in post six. Thanks for your imput Mark, Jeri Jon and George, I had been looking for a midi converter for ages, I'm now glad to hear there is more than one program available.

I have a programme called MP3 EASY, which I bought in PC World, which would seem on the face of it to convert back and forward from MP3 to wav, and vice versa. However this scrofulous computer has ceased to recognise either of my CD drives, I can't make it work. Any body else tried this programme?

Mike, that hyper-sensitive message didn't sound like your other ones, but I didn't know you well enough to know you weren't just having a mood swing. Then again, I should have known you couldn't lose that many brain cells in so short a period of time.

I'd try some of these programs, but I have a rather slow connection and too much stuff on my computer already, and seem to have all I need. The built-in synthesizer sounds interesting, though.
