I can't read it with that red background, I'm afraid. I'll try again when my eyes are less tired- it looks fun. Thanks.

Joe Offer - I was feeling very YOUNG because I only got 4 correct. Maybe there is a correct age for optimal performance on this quizz? *grin*

Nice quiz. Got 7 right.

But... found 2 errors, I'm afraid: 1. It's Jona Lewie, not Jonah 2. The Singing Nun's real name was Jeanine Deckers. Her recording name was Soeur Sourire. But for release in the USA it was translated into 'Singing Nun'.

Did you notice that it sometimes helps to keep the length of the answer-box (which betrays the number of characters of the correct answer) in mind, specially when you have to guess out of two or three alternatives? When I realised it, it was too late, I had arrived at question 48.

I would have got them all right if I'd have known the answers!

As it is I got three right. I couldn't ask the audience, nor could I phone a friend! But that doesn't really matter because you probably couldn't afford to dole one million pounds - could you? Thanks anyway for posting such a an interesting little quiz.

Have a good Christmas.

Dave R.

I got Six correct of a possible eleven which I had heard of. Eg, I might have guessed singing nun If I had been thinking more clearly.

I found the quiz very Britian-centric (to coin a compound word) Here in North America, "Christmas Number One" is not a common concept. In fact, this October when I visited England was the first I had heard of it.

Here are some Quiz Questions with a more North American Flavor.

Who were first a hit with the folowing

Snoopy's Christmas
Mary's Boy Child
Blue Christmas
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
Pretty Paper

Who Wrote?

Marvelous Toy
Christmas in Prison
Pretty Paper
The Christmas Song
Song for a Winter's Night

Jim Croce did a song with Christmas as a backdrop.
What was it called?

Who believes that Grandma got run over by a Reindeer?
What was the evidence?

That's all i can think of for now. anyone got any more?

(line breaks added by a Joeclone)

Oops, The lack of line breaks makes it more difficult. I think I'll leave that as part of the quiz.

I got 6, and I think prove that there is no optimal age because all the ones I got were pre-1963.

Sailor Jack: I think the evidence for Grandma's reindeer hit-and-run were "Claus marks on her forehead"? And "me and Grandpa, we believe." I know Elvis did Blue Christmas, was he the first?

Jack the Sailor:

Snoopy's Christmas - Mary's Boy Child - Blue Christmas - Eeel-vis? Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer - Gene Autry Pretty Paper - Willie Nelson (the first version I heard)

Who Wrote?

Marvelous Toy - Tom Paxton Christmas in Prison - John Prine
Pretty Paper - Willie Nelson The Christmas Song - ? Song for a Winter's Night _

Jim Croce did a song with Christmas as a backdrop. What was it called? - It Doesn't Have To Be That Way

Who believes that Grandma got run over by a Reindeer? - Me and Grandpa What was the evidence? Incriminating Claus marks on her back

~;o)- Mary

2 for sure, and a few I should have known! I NEVER thought I'd say thank God for Madonna and Santa Baby!

The above is an example of the "printer-friendly" format that Pene has designed for the upcoming revision of Mudcat. I quickly figured out that it was an easy way to combine threads. I used to hate that job, but Pene made it easy.
Thanks, Pene.

I got seven.

I found the ONLY way to read the thing without eye strain was to use 'Select All' which highlights all the words. A useful trick for this sort of background.

Some addition/corrections to the above answers so far to the 'Sailor' quiz:

First recording: Mary's Boy Child: Boney M...??! No way, back in 1957 done by Harry Belafonte first! Blue Christmas: Russ Morgan, 1949 Rudolph Rednose: yes, Gene Autry Wrote: Xmas in Prison:John Prine for sure, great song!

I was wondering about Boney M., I thought I'd heard it before. Couldn't remember though.

Didn't know bout Russ Morgan. Was is exactly the same song? or did Elvis change it like he did Hound Dog?
