Subject: New singaround in 2002, Chesham, England From: Hamish Date: 21 Dec 01 - 06:09 AM We're trying a new venue for a new singaround in 2002. It's the Blue Ball in Asheridge, which is about two miles north-west of Chesham, Bucks, England. Booked so far are: - Friday 11th January - acoustic singaround in the non-smoking function room and - Friday 25th January - amplified open mic session in the main bar. First drink for performers is on the house, and there will be some grub (sandwiches) also on the house. (Bring a ladder ha ha ha!) More info on my website Cheers. Oh, yes: and have a happy festive season and a guid new year. Hamish mailto:hamish@lombardy.clara.net |

Subject: RE: New singaround in 2002, Chesham, England From: Gervase Date: 02 Jan 02 - 08:19 AM It's at the far end of the Metropolitan line - so fairly easy for you Liz. It's about a fiver's cab ride from the station. I'll be there, but coming from the opposite direction, unfortunately (and if that doesn't put you off, nothing will!) |
Subject: RE: New singaround in 2002, Chesham, England From: Liz the Squeak Date: 02 Jan 02 - 04:56 PM May give it a whirl, depends on getting back... Metropolitan isn't all that dependable, especially when I have to get off it onto the District line.... LTS |
Subject: RE: New singaround in 2002, Chesham, England From: GUEST,hrothgar Date: 03 Jan 02 - 03:45 AM I'm upset. The Met was very reliable when I was working on it thirty years ago. |

The 11th BLUE BALL Asheridge mmmm was it because of the cold weather? |

Subject: RE: New singaround in 2002, Chesham, England From: Hamish Date: 04 Jan 02 - 04:04 AM Well - I'm very glad that Gervase will be there, and that LTS is considering. I'm not sure that I would flog up the Met line and pay £5 for a taxi just for a free first drink and a sandwich ;^) ...I'll only be driving four miles myself. And thank you, Breezy, for your kind words. All the best for the Silver Cup - and hope your new landlord keeps things going for you there. |
Subject: RE: New singaround in 2002, Chesham, England From: Ned Ludd Date: 04 Jan 02 - 07:14 AM Too far for me I'm afraid, unless I am down there visiting. Hope it goes well though While I'm here... Happy new year Liz! (and anyone who knows me but whose identity I haven't got yet) |
Subject: RE: New singaround in 2002, Chesham, England From: Herga Kitty Date: 04 Jan 02 - 03:04 PM Another snag (from another Met line user) is that very few trains go direct from the City (or even Baker Street) to Chesham - you have to change from an Amersham train at Chalfont. Don't let me put you off though... Hrothgar - yes the Met line used to be good, but now suffers badly from congestion during the morning rush hour (especially at Baker Street), and frequent signal failures, morning and evening. It falls over most days. Once City-bound trains are running really late they get taken out at Harrow and the passengers are all detrained to cram on to the next one... it's been much better over the last week when most passengers were on their holidays! Hamish - good luck with the singaround. |
Subject: RE: New singaround in 2002, Chesham, England From: Liz the Squeak Date: 05 Jan 02 - 05:05 AM I failed. I got a better offer. Well, one that involved only going a few steps out of work..... Maybe when I get me bike back..... And er... Ned - While I'm here... Happy new year Liz! - Do I know you? When did we meet?? Brain has temorarily gone Metropolitan on me and fallen over.... LTS |

I've written a brief review which you can see here. Next one's an open mic/singaround in the main bar on Friday 25th January. |

Subject: RE: New singaround in 2002, Chesham, England From: Hamish Date: 21 Jan 02 - 10:11 AM John: Not so fast! The Blue Ball is 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month; plus I will on occasion have to have a dep for the thing (holidays, one of my many paid gigs, whatever...). If I thought that I was committing 26 Fridays of each year, I'd be even dafter than I look (impossible?). And, if my wife thought or was allowed to think that, well there'd be some friction in places which don't need any. e-mail me direct, and make me an offer! Cheers and glad you've got a venue sorted. Nice club. p.s. Yer man Malcolm did a floor spot at Tudor last week when Nancy Kerr and James Fagan played. The boy done good. Hamish |
Subject: RE: New singaround in 2002, Chesham, England From: Hamish Date: 23 Jan 02 - 08:49 AM Gervase: Great stuff! Thanks for your kind words (which I will share with all the other good people who made it such a good evening.) Sorry if I've taken a couple of days to acknowledge your posting but it gives me this opportunity to refresh the thread!!! Looking forward to your contributions, and whatever else might happen! Cheers, Hamish |
Subject: RE: New singaround in 2002, Chesham, England From: Hamish Date: 28 Feb 02 - 03:26 PM I've added some reports on the first few sessions at The Blue Ball singarounds/open-mic nights. They're taking off very well, and I've very good feelings tht they're becoming a regular fixture: 2nd Friday of each month is an acoustic singaround in the non-smoking function room, and 4th Fridays is an open-mic session in the main bar. |
