Subject: RE: Chords for Walking in a Winter Wonderlan From: Maxine Date: 21 Dec 01 - 02:54 PM Tee hee! Raggytash, I would love to hear the whole story behind that pic! I hope you're friend thinks the song is funny....mind you, if he's dressing up in womens clothes for all to see, he must have a great sense of humour - fingers crossed eh? |
Subject: RE: Chords for Walking in a Winter Wonderlan From: Raggytash Date: 21 Dec 01 - 03:00 PM There may have been more than a tad of alcohol consumed and he foolishly allowed a girlfriend to dress him up, underwear, make-up the lot ..........they say hell hath no fury ............by God they're right, when they spilt up she even threaten to post them on the internet, don't know if she ever did. However he did eventually get them when she posted them to his new girl! She, God bless her, showed everyone!!!!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Chords for Walking in a Winter Wonderlan From: Maxine Date: 21 Dec 01 - 03:25 PM Well, the ex sounds positively charming! I bet the new girlfriend laughed her socks off - that's unless he was wearing them of course! He must have been mighty drunk to have let her put on makeup, undies etc - either that, or more likely, it seemed like a good idea at the time, perhaps something he'd thought about for a while!? Probably best not to even go there! This song sounds perfect for him....good luck! |
Subject: RE: Chords for Walking in a Winter Wonderlan From: Murray MacLeod Date: 21 Dec 01 - 07:12 PM The parody referred to in this thread is in the Digitrad Here. I do this song too, once a year, at Halloween. Murray |
Subject: RE: Chords for Walking in a Winter Wonderlan From: Murray MacLeod Date: 21 Dec 01 - 07:31 PM Mark, the chords in the C version are distinctly iffy. The site gives (E)In the meadow (B7)we can build a (E)snowman, Then pretend that (B7)he is Parson (E)Brown, (G)He'll say, "Are you (D)married?" we'll say, "(G)No, man, But (G)you can do the (D)job when you're in (G)town." The (B7) in the first and second lines should be an(A), and the (D) in the third line should be a (C). I'm less sure about the last line, but I think the first (G) should be an (A7), and that the following (D) and (G) should ideally be (D7) and (G7). Murray

Subject: RE: Chords for Walking in a Winter Wonderland From: Jim Dixon Date: 21 Dec 01 - 11:04 PM Back in May, 2000, I made my only attempt at songwriting and hardly anyone noticed. The tune I used was "Walking in a Winter Wonderland." The thread was called BS about CS. You have to read the beginning post to understand the song. Maybe it's still good for a laugh. |
Subject: Chords Add: WINTER WONDERLAND From: Gary T Date: 21 Dec 01 - 11:22 PM These are from a book. They sound right to my ear, although the four measures staying on the G7 seem to beg for more chord changes: C C |
Subject: RE: Chords for Walking in a Winter Wonderland From: Lanfranc Date: 22 Dec 01 - 11:02 AM Everything depends on the pitch that you want to sing it in. The chords I posted were straight off the 1934 sheet music, and require you to sing a few high-ish notes, a problem for the treble-y challenged! The Guitar Archive's chords are often suspect - the version of the "Galaxy Song" posted there was a particular disappointment. Alan |
Subject: Chords Add: WINTER WONDERLAND From: Genie Date: 22 Dec 01 - 12:37 PM What I play is similar to this, but easier to play (for me) in the key of C (I put the capo on 4 or 5 if I want to sing it lower). So here's my version (with a few lyric phrases changed to the original ones). Genie WINTER WONDERLAND C Gone away is the blue bird; E B7 E Later on, we'll conspire B When it snows, ain't it thrillin' |
Subject: RE: Chords for Walking in a Winter Wonderland From: Murray MacLeod Date: 22 Dec 01 - 02:42 PM Im going to have to go out and listen to a recording of this. Maybe I have the tune figured out all wrong. Murray |
Subject: RE: Chords for Walking in a Winter Wonderland From: Genie Date: 22 Dec 01 - 11:56 PM Murray, In my post, I forgot to change the chords in the later part of the song (the second posting of the bridge). Just ignore that part. (I was working from an earlier post and I was substituting chords and didn't realize I had done the substitution only through the first verse and bridge.) Genie |
Subject: RE: Chords for Walking in a Winter Wonderland From: GUEST,Genie (not logged in) Date: 23 Dec 01 - 12:10 PM One other thing about the chords I posted. When I do that change back and forth from G to G7, the G7 I use is an inverted one, with the following finger positions: 1st (low E) string * -- 3rd fret 2nd (A) string --2nd fret 3rd (D) string -- 3rd fret 6th (high E) string -- 3rd fret The G chord I use is the same, except that the 3rd (D) string is open and the 3rd fret is held down on the 5th (B string). Changing between these two chords, then, involves moving only one finger. Genie |
Subject: RE: Chords for Walking in a Winter Wonderland From: Murray MacLeod Date: 23 Dec 01 - 01:23 PM Well, we are pretty much in synch here Genie, except for that third line where you play all these G7's.
I hear the line as (G)A beautiful(Dm)sight,we're(Em)happy to(Dm)night. But, IMHO it sounds so much better if you play this as a descending sequence starting off with the G as xx0087, Dm as x07765, Em as 0x5453, and the last Dm in normal first position. Murray |
Subject: RE: Chords for Walking in a Winter Wonderland From: Genie Date: 23 Dec 01 - 02:54 PM Murray, Dm would probably work fine instead of the G7. I tried using F there last night, and that worked. Personally, I find the G-G7 alternation easy to play and I like the sound, but, as is often the case, there are alternative chords that will work. I imagine that the original sheet music probably had some more jazzy chords here and there. Of course, if you add harmony, that will limit your options for chords. Genie |
Subject: Lyr Add: LIVIN' IN A PHOENIX WONDERLAND From: Kaleea Date: 24 Dec 01 - 12:43 AM Some of you seem to be quite mixed up about the title and words to this popular desert song. Allow me to assist you: "LIVIN' IN A PHOENIX WONDERLAND" Lyrics by A. Non Palm trees wave, are you listenin'? In the pool, water's glistenin', A warm sunny day, we like it that way, Livin' in a Phoenix Wonderland. Gone away is the blizzard, Here to stay is the lizard, A warm sunny day, we're melting away, Livin' in a Phoenix Wonderland. In the desert we can have a picnic, Cactus, sand, rattlesnakes & sun. Christmas dinner is an old tradition-- It's pinto beans & tacos by the ton. Later on we'll perspire, As the temperature rises higher, A warm sunny day, we're melting away, Livin' in a Phoenix Wonderland. Ah, and dear gentlemusicians, let we not forget that there are chords which accompany the first two words of the song, also. If you are in the key of say, C major, (mayhap the most commonly used for this song), one would play the V (G) for the word "Palm," followed by the V7 aug5, for the word "trees" (G7 with a raised 5th). |
