This is now available on CD.  You can buy it (with additional tracks added) from  Topic Records.  If you are in America, you would do better to order it through  Camsco Music.

A good tool for finding this sort of information is the search engine at  Google.com

I swear I remember the song "THE SWAN-NECKED VALVE" being on the Elektra release of this album in the U.S.!? It was a favorite of mine--done by Louie Killen I think. Why would they delete that song from the CD? Might my memory be so off?

They actually deleted several of the original songs and added new ones, so the CD is not really a reissue of the LP, it's a new compilation inspired by the old LP. Swan Necked Valve was sung by Matt McGinn on the LP, and he was left off the CD entirely!

Here's the LP contents:

Miner's Dance Tunes - The Celebrated Working Man's Band

The Collier's Rant - Bob Davenport
The Recruited Collier - Anne Briggs
Pit Boots - A.L. Lloyd
The Banks of the Dee - Louis Killen
The Donibristle Moss Moran Disaster - Matt McGinn
The Durham Lockout - Bob Davenport
The Blackleg Miners - Louis Killen
The Celebrated Working Man - A.L. Lloyd
The Row Between the Cages - Bob Davenport
The Collier's Daughter / The Weaver's March - The Celebrated Working Man's Band
The Weaver and the Factory Maid - A.L. Lloyd
The Spinner's Wedding - Ray Fisher
The Poor Cotton Wayver - A.L. Lloyd
The Doffing Mistress - Anne Briggs
The Swan Necked Valve - Matt McGinn
The Dundee Lassie - Ray Fisher
The Foreman O'Rourke - Matt McGinn
Farewell to the Monty - Louis Killen
Miner's Dance Tunes - The Celebrated Working Man's Band.

Here's the CD...

1 The High Level Ranters : The Sandgate Girl's Lament / Elsie Marley
2 The High Level Ranters : Doon the Waggonway
3 Tommy Gilfellon : A Miner's Life
4 Ewan MacColl & Peggy Seeger : The Coal-Owner & the Pitman's Wife
5 Louis Killen : The Trimdon Grange Explosion
6 Louis Killen : The Blackleg Miners
7 Dick Gaughan : The Auchengeich Disaster
8 Ed Pickford : Ee Aye, Aa Cud Hew
9 Maureen Craik : The Durham Lockout
10 The High Level Ranters : Aa'm Glad the Strike's Done
11 The Celebrated Working Man's Band : The Weaver's March
12 Ray Fisher : The Spinner's Song
13 Ewan MacColl & Peggy Seeger : Oh, Dear Me
14 Anne Briggs : The Doffing Mistress
15 Dave Brooks : The Little Piecer
16 Harry Boardman : The Hand-Loom Weaver's Lament
17 Ray Fisher : The Dundee Lassie
18 The Oldham Tinkers : Success to the Weavers
19 Ewan MacColl & Peggy Seeger : Fourpence a Day
20 Louis Killen : Up the Raw
21 Dick Gaughan : Bonny Woodha'
22 Louis Killen : The Banks of the Dee
23 Bob Davenport : The Row Between the Cages
24 Louis Killen : Aw Wish Pay Friday Would Come
25 Louis Killen : Keep Your Feet Still, Geordie Hinny
26 Louis Killen : Farewell to the Monty

as you can see, lots of differences

Sorry the lists came out jumbled; in the text window each song/artist was on a different line!

You need to use html line-breaks rather than single carriage returns: <BR>

I see what you mean about the track listings.  It does seem an odd thing to do, doesn't it?

Rockin' World in Northampton MA - has a copy of the LP (EX+ condition, they say) for $35. 'Course that's not a free download, but life's like that.

They are at: http://www.rockinworld.com/default.htm

Congratulations and thank you, Folkmonster! I believe I understood it all. I think that means (for you) that you write well and (for me) that it doesn't have to be that difficult.

AlanKH, you have to reset your cookie, so that you are not a GUEST, first of all. To do this, go to the Quick Links, click on the drop down menu and choose Reset Cookie. Follow the isntructions.

Then come back to the Forum. At the top menu bar, you will see a Personal Page option. Click on that, choose Send a Message and follow those steps and voila! you've just sent your first "PM" (personal message.)

Folkmonster, I've just tried your site. Great idea, but I couldn't go back to Home to send you a personal mail so forgive me for letting you know via the Mudcat that the first few 'LP' links (down to Ashley Hutchings) didn't work but everything I tried further down did.

Do you know about Nigel Gatherer's site? Might save you some labour on the Scottish contingent ...

Thanks suzanne, yes I did know about Nigel's site - good idea - I've now added a link it on the first page!

The links actually do work, it's the web provider (topcities) servers that are randomly refusing to serve up the pages. It's really p*ssing me off.

Still, I can always move provider, but I need >150MB of space (I still have 300 albums to post ...).

Thanks again. I'll add an email and guestbook icon to the navigation fame.

FM
