Jackie Alper, much-loved former host (and creator of) the "Mostly Folk" show on WRPI 91.5FM, referred to as "Ma" by Ronnie Gilbert, friend of W.Guthrie,P.Seeger,etc., and considered by The Eighth Step Coffeehouse at the Cohoes Music Hall, Cohoes N.Y. as resident honorary grandma/ma/invaluable treasure,is in St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y. facing hip surgery, after falling last night and breaking her hip. For anyone who knows her and wants to be updated, call the hospital at 518-382-2233 for patient info, or check in with Margie at the 8th Step Coffeehouse, 518-434-1703. Peace, TeriLu

I used to listen to Jackie and "Mostly Folk" every week when I lived in the area. I greatly enjoyed the show, and I learned a lot from it. I wish her a speedy recovery.

Saw Jackie at Vaughn Ward's Memorial Gathering a few weeks ago. She was chipper, as always. When asked "How are you?" she responded "Fair to maudlin." We'll give Margie a call and ask to be kept informed. 'Tis true - Jackie's a folk music treasure!

Sandy

Chin up, Jackie- Hip replacements are fairly routine these days (it helps to keep telling yourself that!). I hope your op goes well and you hospital stay is short, and that your have good, loving help and support when you get home. You and Joe always had a special place in our hearts. Blessings and love, Jean and George

Jackie had surgery last night (Friday). It went well. Saw her this afternoon, and she seems to be recovering well. Keep her in your thoughts. -George ::-.--O

Just wanted to add my prayes and well wishes. It's been a long time since I sang at the Eighth Step and Cafe Lena's and some of the other coffee houses in the Albany area, but it seemed like Jackie was always there to cheer me on. Now it's time to cheer her on. A wonderful, warm, loving lady. Good memories. And hello, George! It seems like too often these days we meet old friends at memorial services..

Jerry
