Charcloth, there are no rules per se. Go to the Auction listings wher you will see, in the lefthand upper corner "Add Item To Auction." Click on that and you can do your own write up, add a picture (be sure you know where it is on your computer and that it is in jpeg format), set your own starting bid, duration of auction and how much of a percentage you'd like the Mudcat to get. It is all up to you, really. I do listings for people who don't have scanners for pix, etc. If you'd like to send me all of the info, I can put it up for you, but it is really pretty simple. No problem, either way and if you have any other questions, please holler.

Thanks!

kat

Just a note for everyone: I've posted this to the HELP forum, too. It seems the Auction Clock is on Standard Time, instead of Daylight Savings, like many of us, so if you see it saying "Ends Tonight at midnight" it is an hour ahead of what most clocks say, i.e. Mudact is two hours ahead of me, on Daylight Savings time, so at 10p my time, Mudcat is midnight, BUT the auction clock says it is 1AM, so if you are bidding in a last ditch effort to win, be aware, until they get a chance to change it, if possible.

Thanks,

kat

Kat, it's not Daylight time now. The auction clock is now, apparently pretty accurately, set to Eastern Standard Time.

Sorry, Jeff, I get Standard and Daylight mixed up as to seasons, but still Mudcat time seems to be 3 hours different from me, and it is usually only 2. Everything else on the east coast is only 2 hours ahead of me and I know my clocks are set right. For instance, right now it is just after 10p, here, but Mudcat says after 1a. See what I mean? Am I terribly confused?

Thanks,

kat

OH!! Never mind! My computer clock is behind an hour, for some reason. I will check it, that's never happened before! Sheesh! My face is as red as this font! Sorry!

As long as we have such a handy thread title, could we have a post or two please that describes what happens after the auction closes? If people who have done this in the past could address these, and describe what they have done, it would be helpful to people later. The question has come up a number of times. I haven't seen this covered in the FAQ-- it would be good if it could be referenced there.

1. Does the seller pay the shipping unless specified otherwise in the auction? Is that paid out of the gross or after the Mudcut, or is it paid as an additional "help" just because the seller is so nice?

2. Does the winner send the check to Mudcat or to the seller? If it goes to Mudcat, is there confirmation of it being received, before sending the item? Or is it on the honor system? If it goes to the seller, is it a check made out to the seller or a check made out to Mudcat for the seller to forward?

3. I noticed someone had said he had "sent some CD's for the auction." Do people send stuff to Max for it to be sent out from Mudcat Central? Is Max OK with that? Is it better for the seller to hold it and send the item out? Is there someone who could post the item and then send it out on behalf of a donor of an item, if a donor feels awkward about setting up the item in the auction?

~Susan

And hey, I never realized-- only members can bid. No cookie, no auction. How come?

1. Susan, I usually offer to pay shipping. When I say 100% to Mudcat, the shipping does NOT come out of the price. All monies go directly to Max, and I pay shipping out of my own pocket to the winner.

2.Winner sends the money to Max. I am not about to add to his troubles by asking him to double handle items! Money to PA, ship from here to winner. Yes, I operate on the honor system although Max usually lets me know when the money has arrived. I haven't been burned yet.

3. As far as I know, most of us just put our stuff in the auction and don't bother Max by actually shipping it to PA. Seems pointless and Max doesn't have the time or energy to deal with loads of stuff arriving at his place.

4. All this is strictly up to the person who places the item in the Auction. I could say "I will pay shipping in the United States, but not overseas". Or, "I will pay shipping to anywhere but Oz", or "Winning bid pays exact shipping to me" in which case I have to wrap the item, go to the PO and get it weighed, notify winner of shipping, wait for the $ to arrive at my house, then ship the bugger.......seems a waste of time.

What I expect to happen after an item closes is:
I notify winner by PM
Winner tells me the $$ is in the mail to Max.
I ship the item.
Wait, and hope to hear from Max the the $$ arrived. If it has been long enough that I think it should have arrived, I ask Max........pending his answer, I begin to harass the buyer.(Which I have never had to do)

Actually, as kat said, there are no hard and fast rules. Do it however seems best/comfortable to you with the least hassle to Max.

Thanks bes/bud. If others will post how they have handled it, this will be very helpful to people asking, later on. Maybe we can just clicky to this instead of saying it over and over each time it's asked.

Nevermind. When I first brought up this thread I didn't have the window maximized and thought the middle of the thread was the beginning. Kat has a couple of messages posted here already that answered my question.

So sorry.
