Anyone out there got any ideas for a Fancy Dress theme Party? I thought Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings but want to save them for Halloween. Has anyone had a good night dressed up strange? Any suggestions welcome!

i was looking for an excuse to get boyfriend dave dressed up as Father Jack from "Father Ted" (vicars and tarts?) but he didn't see the funny side and i haven't got a tea trolley.

Some years ago, I'd heard about a charity function where every woman was instructed to wear her most gawd-awful gown. I have a couple of old prom gowns and bridesmaid dresses that would have fit the bill perfectly. I'm sure there's also men's formal attire out there that some guys can't believe they ever wore. So how about a "Prom Night-mare" party, just for fun?

It seems transparently obvious that you want to have a Father Ted Party!(don't quite know why, but the idea appeals to me) Men never like the idea of a dress-up party, but if you go ahead and plan it, he will come, and, as most men are lacking in costume creativity, he *will* dress as Father Jack--

We just had our 6th annual 12th Night party this past Saturday; we have a theme every year, usually somewhat mediaeval/Renaissance. Last year's was "Beowulf", the year before Shakespeare, THIS year we did fairy tales & nursery rhymes, with some great results!

I love the idea of a Father Ted party...in fact I might have one!!! there's Father Jack of course but also Mrs Doyle would be fun...or Dougal...or even Fr Ted himself...then there are the 'occasional' characters...the Cardinals...especially the one with a spliff....could be fun eh?.....what about a Father Ted night at Stony Stratford??!!!!

Would you say that about a bloke who openly ogles the daughter of his best friend, spends most of the summer with her and writes not entirely innocent stories about her?? These days we call that sort of thing molesting, and volunteer to string them up! Rev. Dodgson's private life was not all that a Rev.s should be!!!

A Long time ago we did a political party. Any party would do .... leaving a lot of room for fringe candidates. One bloke came with a tin of peas covering his **** ... he had come as the Greenpeas representative. Then half way thru the party a bunch of "anarchists" claiming to be anti-establishment protesters raided the party. It was all good fun from what I remember!

At the Whitby New Year bash we always have a fancy dress party.This year was characters from comics or comic strips,Jude & Lynsey went as the Fat Slags from Viz, I wore a grubby rain mac and a name tag and went as Flash Gordon. Last year was Pantomime characters (very British). We've also had 'Beers of the World' and 'Characters from Folk Songs (and you have to sing the song)'.Next year may be Pop Stars of the Past could be a lot of Elvis's ?

I enjoyed The Beers of the World one. I got second prize for me Dog's Bollocks. Perhaps we could limit the pop stars to dead ones, or more generally 'Dead Musicians'. That could be fun. What do you think, Jim?

Thank you for all the ideas; we went to see Lord of The Rings yesterday and I have decided that folkie types would find that theme far too easy. I'm sure I've seen Gandalf at Whitby, a Dwarf at Robin Hood's Bay, Hobbits in Holmfirth and a few Orcs at Alchester. I shall report back if we ever get around to having the party!

Tell all your guests to go & spend a set figure e.g. £5-00 at their local charity shop on whay ever they can find (top to toe) result charities get the profit, everone looks a pratt and the kit will do for Towersey (I know!)

A rather generously proportioned male friend of ours attended a party as Mama Cass some years ago, to great appreciation; just remember to accessorise with plenty of ham sandwiches---!!!!
