Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: katlaughing Date: 08 Jan 02 - 04:40 PM I think the holidays got in the way, Frank. I'd like to, but I don't have a lot of time or energy right now. I hope others do and I will try to drop in when I am able. I've always really enjoyed the Mudcat rooms and yours, very much. Thanks, kat |

(Now that Daylight SavingsBy the way, is there any kind of hands-free gizmo on PalTalk now? Ever since I tried wedging something in to hold my control key down, my laptop keyboard has been rattling! But now that I have a new guitar, I'd like to play it. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: Mark Cohen Date: 08 Jan 02 - 05:14 PM Oops, got interrupted while trying to edit the post. What I was trying to say is that now that Daylight Savings Time is over, I'm 2 hours earlier than Pacific Time, 5 hours earlier than Eastern (Mudcat) Time, and 10 hours earlier than GMT. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: Jock Morris Date: 08 Jan 02 - 05:51 PM You'll probably find the Mudcat Snug Tavern room open on Thursday evening about 9pm GMT. Password is "dt". Scott |

Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: Steve in Idaho Date: 09 Jan 02 - 12:07 AM Yes there is Francy. Problem is the time difference between the UK folks and the West Coast of the USA. It's 2 AM by the time I get off work. I have been in a couple of times this winter and have thought about opening up the Cat on Sunday afternoons - early enough to catch the UK and all of us. Any other thoughts? Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: katlaughing Date: 09 Jan 02 - 12:13 AM We used to do pretty good on Sunday afternoons, Mudcat time, as we were able to catch the UK folks before they retired for the night, Steve, so maybe that would work, again? If we started at 1p Mudcat time, it'd be a little earlier for those of us in the Rocky Mtns. and West Coast and Hawaii, but a nice time of evening for the UK, I think. Or maybe an hour or two later than 1p? |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 09 Jan 02 - 03:21 AM Ghjost - you in the UK? If so, BT Internet has some good offers going on at the moment, but watch out for those hidden 'peak rate' times..... LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Jan 02 - 09:12 AM I was on Paltalk last night and there were a few of us around - Jacko, Norton, dwditty and me - and I thought I saw Alison on line when I started. One problem has always been getting suffient number of people from Mudcat on line at the same time for anything other than a scheduled event. I must admit that these days, when I am on line, I don't go specifically looking for folk although if I saw Frank was online for example, I probably would check to see if he had a room open. Normally, I just assume that there will be no folk rooms and just head straight for the "live and unplugged" rooms which are nearly always at the top of the list and don't bother looking through the rest of the list to see if anything else that might interest me is availible. Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: Steve in Idaho Date: 09 Jan 02 - 09:47 AM I think Jon is right - I see pretty much the same group each night, with notable exceptions of course, and I, like Jon, go to one of the two or three rooms open and live. So a Sunday jam through the winter might be a good deal. I know BigChuck tried to get some concerts going but there was almost no interest so that fell through. Kat says that sundays used to be a good day and I think that will work for me through the later part of winter. I'll check with my partner and if this is something that we can work around (we have livestock besides regular jobs) I'll commit to opening the room on Sundays at 11 AM Mountain Time for the rest of January and see how much interest we get. We may also need to look at unlocking the room and be REAL specific on the opening banner what type of music will be acceptable. Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: dwditty Date: 09 Jan 02 - 12:14 PM I am on Paltalk frequently. While there are some exceptions, the people there are fun and friendly....and there is some wonderful talent. I usually hang out in the live rooms. Sometimes though they get a bit rowdy or the lines are too long or whatever, and I go exploring. I have spent time in a room called Accordians of the World. If you ever thought accordians were all about Lawrence Welk, think again. Some amazing music. Also, there are few places more peaceful to hang out than is a room called Native American Flute and Drums...beautiful....soothing...serene. I recommmend that if you want to experience the next best thing to live (3D) music, go there and poke around a bit. My id is dwditty. Add me as a pal and PM me to say hello. Hope to see you. I should take a moment to thank Jon Freeman (aka squiggle) for bringing the world of on-line live music to me. It has meant a great deal, Jon. Thank you. dw |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: SDShad Date: 09 Jan 02 - 04:59 PM I'm listening to the Acoustic Guitars Live Group right now--there's some good talent there. Yeah, I'd be very interested in the Sunday jam idea. Wouldn't be able to make it all of the time, but now that we have a cable modem connection, a new, fast computer, and a house with a separate room for our computers, etc., I'd be able to make it some of the time. It's been too long since I've been in an online circle--think it was still on Hearme last time I did. So what other rooms are good out there? AGLG just closed, so I'm a-huntin' for good listening material for while I'm at work.... Chris |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: SDShad Date: 09 Jan 02 - 05:33 PM Oh, and I have a stupid Paltalk newbie question: back in the old Hearme days, we had to put a weight down on a key (F1) or use the handy-dandy Hearme Lock program that a Mudcatter provided. So, with Paltalk, you hold down the Ctrl key. How do you keep the channel open when you're using both hands to play guitar? Figured I'd ask before I got into a room and tried to take my turn.... Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: Steve in Idaho Date: 09 Jan 02 - 05:36 PM KatRoses is very good. And "Seriously Schitfaced Musicians" can be good. I'm not home right now so don't have my list available. There is also an "Over 40" group that does about half and half Kareoke/live. Guy that goes by T-Picker hangs out there and is fun to be around. You might have to go into a couple to find them - but they are there. What's your name in there and when I get home I'll see what I can dredge up and PM it to you. I also go by Norton1 in there so add me also - PM me and I'll let you know where I'm at and what I know of it at the time. One of the things I have found is that even if the rooms don't normally have live music they do love it when it shows up. I think it was Harley's biker Bar I went into one night and did a small, half hour or so, live show for them. It was fun to be performing again and no one throwing crap at me, bumping the mic stands, or just generally being a pain. Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: Steve in Idaho Date: 09 Jan 02 - 05:37 PM And on your "How to" question. I use a stapler and let one end rest on the key while I play. Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: SDShad Date: 09 Jan 02 - 05:46 PM Steve-- I'm sdshad there, too. No caps, which I hadn't consciously intended, I don't think, but oh well. Thanks! Chris |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: Grab Date: 10 Jan 02 - 10:24 AM I believe there's a sub-culture of items used to hold down the Ctrl key, and I'm sure there's some ppl out there using items which we really don't want to think about... ;-) Me, I jam the clip on a Bic pen-top down the side of the Ctrl key. Graham. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: GUEST,ghost Date: 10 Jan 02 - 04:23 PM Liz the Squeak, thanks but I'm located in the Pacific Northwest or the upper left corner of the US. I may be mistaken but I don't think those Canadian providers extend their services into these parts. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: Jon Freeman Date: 10 Jan 02 - 04:30 PM SDShad, someone, I think IvanB, came up with the idea of using the Accesibility options in Windows (98+ I think) as it provides a means of "locking" the Control key. Jon

Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: SDShad Date: 13 Jan 02 - 01:50 PM Yeah, Jon--StickyKeys! I came across this Friday when I unintentionally tapped the Shift key five times, and a window came up asking if I wanted to turn it on. Thought I'd try it for PalTalk, but hadn't had the chance to try it. Maybe tonight.... Chris |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 13 Jan 02 - 02:01 PM SDShad, why don't you come on over now...several of us are in PalTalk. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: SDShad Date: 13 Jan 02 - 02:10 PM So I noticed just now--be there as soon as I grab a drink and tune up the Ovie.... S. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 13 Jan 02 - 02:14 PM Just gettin' going. Steve singing now. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Interest in Open Mics on Paltalk???? From: SDShad Date: 13 Jan 02 - 11:10 PM BTW, StickyKeys worked just like a charm, though I still find it a little confusing trying to figure out just when it's still in effect. But the simple little program for "keeping the Control Key down" that Frank sent me was far easier to use. One click, no confusion. Thanks, Frank. (It was you, wasn't it, Frank? The whole time on PalTalk today is kind of a happy blur at this point!) Chris |
