One can only take so much. My local ISP, (earthlink) is so unreliable that I have decided to cease looking upon internet service as a basic home utility. I get disconnected nearly every time I move the mouse. The phone company blames the ISP, the ISP blames the phone company, and my computer blames them both. No triangulation of alleged "customer support" has been of any help.

Since I have easy and reliable internet access at work, both to me and my family, I am stopping my access to Earthlink, at least for now. (Disconnected again).

I fully understand the repercussions of this. All my e-mail buddies will have to deal with it. I'm sure all the spam companies will be devastated. And unfortunately, Mudcat PM's wont't get through.

But I'm certainly not quitting the Mudcat. I'll be monitoring and posting, probably as "Guest, Bluejay from work" or something. Maybe I can even set my work computer as "BlueJay". I don't know.

In the meantime, Lonesome EJ knows how to contact me. As does Don Meixner, Rick Fielding, & maybe Spaw, if he's been paying attention.

Adios from this bumfuq computer apparantly using telegraph lines. Thanks, BlueJay

The "reset cookie" facility should work from your work computer BlueJay.

Best regards,

mooman

Hey BJ.....I'm paying attention!! Sorry to hear, but we'll be expecting some work postings especially considering the work! You should be able to reset your cookie like mooman said if you want.

Clinton is dead nuts on regarding the cable modem. I had an ISP that tried hard, but they had problems and I live here in the boonies with the friggin' Dixie Cup & Thread Phone Company and the whole thing was a giant pain in the ass. Finally my cable company was taken over by Time-Warner and it took about a year nad a half for them to put in fiber optics and then offer digital cable. Along with that came the ability to get RoadRunner broadband service and it is FANTASTIC.....costly as hell, but worth it. When you figure what I was spending though and take in all the pain in te ass, it's a bargain!

Anyway, we'll still be expecting your scrawny ass around here regularly.

Spaw

Ah, BlueJay, I know what you mean. My sister has terrible service over in the Steamboat area, just went with Earthlink and hasn't even been able to get help figuring out why she cannot get connected and that's been going on for at least two weeks. She said their tech people were not helpful at all.

Like Spaw and Clinton, we finally went with cable and it is fantastic. If you got to this site and enter your zipcode, you can find out if at&t has service in your area, if you are interested. It was cost effective for us, because we always had a second phone line for the computer. The cost of that along with teh ISP were at least equal to, if not more, that what we pay for cable internet.

Good luck and tell yer *bosses* we DO expect to see you here!**BG**

You have my sympathy, Bluejay. I have the same problem with AOL. Next month, I am going cable. Will your local library let you play with us once in a while?

I am having similar problems with my provider, which actually *is* the phone company(Verizon), I get disconnected a lot for "Lack of Activity" even when I am downloading--No DSL or Cable service is available, though I get ads in the mail nearly every week offering it to me--when I call, they tell me that it is not available--I am told that only about 10% of homes actually have high speed access available. Makes me nuts--

Thanks, all. No cable here, but I could get satellite. I just don't think it's worth the cost, since mostly all I do at home is pop in here late at night. Most of my internet searches etc. are done at work, due to better computers and connections. So it makes sense to me to ditch the headaches for now.

I will try the cookie reset at work, mooman. But don't expect much for awhile, as we're going to L.A. for a couple of weeks. Might try the laptop if I can pry it away from the others.

Kat- My *bosses* are deeply respectful of my need for my personal time at work, at least when there's not a big push on. Especially since I saved all the receipts for the shoes... ;)

Rick- I'll be watching the horizon.

Spaw- Just testing you. I knew you were paying attention. Can't get cable. We can't even get cable TV here. Maybe someday I'll get satellite, but I think I'd need a better computer to make it worthwhile. I'll check in from work. You can't get rid of my scrawny ass that easily.

Thanks again, BlueJay

well BJ good luck at work with "Da Bosses". Actually i find this pretty interesting as living in a "third"world country as opposed to a "first" world country like the USA or the UK and I never have problems with my internet connection. High Bandwidth unlimited connection with no problems of crashing. Makes you wonder really...Oh and I have cable TV too.

Those of us who live out in the provinces completely understand. I had a lovely cable modem connection when I lived in town in colorado. Now that I live in the Kansas countryside, I barely have phone service and I'm on the internet much, much less because my computer connection is so slow it makes my teeth itch to wait while a screen is loading.

I see the work guys digging trenches along the main road to the little town a few miles south of me. Maybe cable is on its way. Meantime, I face the same situation as Bluejay -- I don't even have television because the only way is to have satellite and there's no way I'm going to pay for that. I didn't even watch it when I had cable tv.

Do stay in touch Bluejay -- you have my personal email, si?

I'll take a guess that you are using Microsoft's browser. Try using Netscape and see if that works.

My ISP at home in Pennsylvania is Voicenet and when I'm in Colorado I use Kelly's machine. She has a DSL line and uses Microsoft. I can't access my Voicenet email via Microsoft but Netscape works fine.

I'm not SAYING that Microsoft block competitors' services, I'll leave that for you to decide.
