I don't wantthis to turn into another "are they good or bad" thread please... I have some tech questions about music stnads...

Those who do use 'em, what kind do ya use??

Portability or stability? Where's the good middle ground?

I'm in full bodging mode again, and thinking after the design of a music stand that'll clamp onto my boom-mic stand, just below the 'joiner' of the 2 upright pieces... (Am I making any sence???) Before I hit my shot and the sparks and teeth start to fly, does anybody know if one already exists out there somewhere, that I just haven't ben able to find?

Ta fer yer eventual input folks!

;-)

I rarely use a music stand on stage but I have several at home. Most are the cheap metal ones you can get at any music store. However my favorite is one my father made for me. It is styled after a 19th century candle stand with a flat base and two support arms. The music holder is mounted on a long vertical notched piece that slided up and down between the vertical supports. There is a cog that fits the notches. He made it to come apart. There are pins that hold it togther. Knock out the pins and it collapses into a small pile of wood. It's a lovely piece of work.

Bardford...

kinda... I've already swapped email with the quicklok people, and unfortunately, that only clamps on to stick out the side... I'm keen for one that goes between me and the mic stand... Give me a reason to keep the Guinness muscle in check too!!

LOL!!!!

Anyone else??

Anybody heard of KONIG & MEYER???

They have a music stand just like I'm looking for, but thier web site isn't very Netscape friendly... and I can't find a price, or if there's a North American distributor...

The thing I'm loking at is in the catalogue... Under Accessories, in the Mic stand section... The Music and sheet holder...

Anyone help???

I use a Konig & Meyer (K&M) stand. It's BY FAR the best folding stand I've ever used. It folds up as small as any of the cheap metal ones, but is more sturdy than any other folding stand I've seen. The legs are very sturdy and lock into position. The tray angle is adjustable. The height can be adjusted from about two feet to about five feet. It comes with a handy carrying case that hasn't worn out in the two years or so I've had it.

I work for an instrument builder in Seattle called Dusty Strings that also operates a music store that carries the K&M stands. Here's the webiste (no on line ordering available) and the email.

At this point, that might be the best bet... I've sent them an email and I'll see if they'll ship me one, if they have the stand that I'm looking for...

There has GOT to be a Canadian distributor, but I'll be right buggered if I can find 'em out here!!!!

Ta fer the good lead JohnP!
