Subject: Love Has No Pride song info
From: GUEST,r.vidan@verizon.net

I am trying to determine the authorship of the song (lyrics or music or both) Love Has No Pride. It has been recorded by Bonnie Raitt and others. Digitrad shows it as a traditional song. IE, in public domain. Is that in reference to the lyrics? Music also? Or did Eric Kaz write one or the other or both? Ascap has him as writer, but I don't know if that refers to music, lyrics, arrangement or what. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the booklet to Bonnie Raitt 'Collection' CD, the song is attributed to 'Eric Kaz/Libby Titus' Glasco Music Co ASCAP. It says the song marked the beginning of her long association 'with one of her favourite writers, Eric Kaz'. Can we assume then that he wrote the lyrics and Titus the music?

Don't know the answer to the question, but the ASCAP website search engine should answer it for you.

I love the song. Used to sing it often, and still do, now and then.

I like the song, and by several different people and have seen it listed in multiple places as by Eric Kaz/Libby Titus. Eric Kaz was around performing with Mimi Farina in Northern California 25 years ago. And that was after Linda Ronstadt made "Love Has No Pride" a FM hit. It's been around a while. I haven't seen Eric's name mentioned in a long time.

Wasn't Stone Pony the name of the group Linda Ronstadt was in at the time? I love the song, too, and I learned it long before I ever dreamed of singing anything in front of anyone.

Jeri, Linda was with Stone Pony for their first and I believe only hit, "Different Drum". I think she was on her own by the time she recorded "Love Has No Pride", but more than likely had members of The Eagles in the studio. I don't have my recordings at hand to confirm this, though.

Linda Ronstadt started her recording carreer with The Stone Ponies (sort of). By the time "Different Drummer" was recorded the group had broken up. Linda recorded the album with members of the Eagles and other studio muscians. The rest is "pop" history.

Strange - Different Drum was released as a Linda Ronstadt & the Stone Ponies recording. Of course, Love Has No Pride is a different matter. Thanks

I hope my attempt at HTML works as I'm trying to post a link to an interview with Linda Ronstadt that appeared in Esquire Magazine in October 1985. She discusses not "Love Has No Pride," but "Long Long Time" from that era. Also interesting discussion of the "Devil's Interval," Irish pipes and the Shakuhachi. Check it out...ClickHere
