Subject: Welsh music in US From: sian, west wales Date: 23 Jan 02 - 05:08 AM Thought that those in the US interested in Welsh music might like to know that the THISTLE & SHAMROCK radio show are having a whole programme of Welsh music on February 28th (presumably because March 1st is St David's Day.) There'll be music by Sian James, Huw Roberts, Stephen Rees and the triple harper Robin Huw Bowen. If you would like more information about this, their email is thistle@npr.org. Apparently they also publish a newsletter. Crasdant, Robin Huw Bowen, Sian Phillips, Danny KilBride, Ffynnon, and Huw Williams will be at the Folk Alliance Showcase (Jacksonville, FL, 21-24 Feb). Crasdant will be presenting a lecture on Welsh traditional music and Sain Records and Wales Arts International will also be about. I can get further info on the artists if anyone so desires. Florida's lookin' real good to us right now - Wales is awash with rain and howling gales. sigh. sian, west wales

Subject: RE: Welsh music in US From: JudeL Date: 23 Jan 02 - 05:18 AM We saw Crasdant at Chippenham last year, absolutely amazing. The sound from that triple harp just flows and rolls around you and wraps you up in it's richness. It's really different and glorious. Jude |

Subject: RE: Welsh music in US From: GUEST,Dave Williams Date: 25 Jan 02 - 02:09 AM Thank you, Sian, for the information. For anyone who's never heard a triple harp, it's a grand experience, especially when played by Robin Huw Bowen. It was invented in Italy in the 17th C, but with its three rows of strings it was enormously difficult to play the center row. The only place it caught on was Wales. Dave Williams |
