Got it, Sorcha - thanks! Hmmm.... no chords, so I'll work out the tab, but I'm not real good at it yet... it looks like it's in C, maybe with an Am?

This is exactly as Steve recorded it. The story I heard was that he was in a restaurant and got up from his table and got in the path of a waitress. They both moved the same way, stopped, move the other way and Steve said "Would you like to dance?' Returning to his table, he began to jot down the lines for the song.

Billy..... I can try to edit it... but I think you've given me a heck of a good start - THANK YOU! I'm going to need to look up that walkdown from G to Bm, unless someone can help... and the G/F#, but I can figure that one out, I think....

Let's try this one more time - btw these chords are the same as on the recording on my 12-string, which is tuned a half step low. So it is actually Db or C capoed 1.

The Harry Fox Agency's songfile.com Website verifies that Steve Goodman was the songwriter. He recorded it, and it's also sung by Mary Travers on the Peter Paul and Mary Such Is Love album. It was also recorded by Jackie DeShannon on her 2005 Jackie album. Josh White, Jr., recorded it, too.

Here is what I am playing. It has a 6 2 5 1 if you think of it as in Am. Very jazzy chord progression with that sweet country ballad delivery. Pure Genius!
