Good day fellow Catters and Friends!! Once again we will meet to play some music, laugh, and enjoy a few moments together. Drift in and play, sing, do both, or just sit a spell and enjoy the uniqueness of this international community.

If you've not been to this before it requires PalTalk, go to www.paltalk.com - download - register - go to groups/music/check the adults box/ - and go to Mudcat Song Circle. We are live only. No back tracks, kareoke, CDs/records/tapes/MP3s/ well you get the idea!

The Circle not only welcomes but encourages new folks and accepts ALL levels of ability. Hope to see you there!

Steve

Steve mentioned giving names for the tunes being useful.. The set I played was Tobins Favourite/ Knights of St Patrick.

Jon, I am sorry I missed your playing!

I did a couple of my old standbys: Prairie Lullaby and Desert Silvery Blue.

It was fun to LtS's Phoebe sing for us, too. And, Norton's friend, Charlie and he did some great duets.

(Beth:) Thank you all for a delightful afternoon. I feel so blessed to have such a wide circle. Among many wonderful gifts this week, perhaps the most wonderful, was http://sniff.numachi.com/~rickheit/dtrad/, which builds on Dick Greenhaus' work by making the tunes in the Digital Tradition immediately printable (and in whistle and dulcimer notation!). Rickheit: fiddlers, not to mention whistlers, dulcimerians and other noteworthey folk, will hold a special place in their hearts for you for all time. Since I don't know who you are, I am hoping whoever on the Mudcat that does know you will tell you what a great gift to humanity that you have given! I feel so rich to have so many tunes at my fingertips! You are better than Publishers Clearing House! (well almost:))

Beth

Chris here, now!

I can't think of a nicer birthday party for us to have had for Beth today than hanging out a while in the Mudcat room. Micca and Norton both dedicated songs to her, and Cyder even played "Happy Birthday" for her on the AntennaFlute (tm)!

We sang:

Will You Go, Lassie Go--Jimmie McPeake
Stand By Me--Ben E. King (Which I sang as a request from Beth, for whom I once sang it as she walked down the aisle)
Angel Band--J. Hascall & William Bradbury
Tear My Stillhouse Down--Gillian Welch (with a drop-in assist on vocals from our friend and fellow Gospel Buckaroo, Bruce Gray)
The Long, Black Veil--Marijohn Wilkin/Danny Dill

And my mom dropped in for a good while in the room--she loved it! Being new to PalTalk, she wasn't sure how to go about joining in the chat, let alone the singing, but she'll be back. So if you see someone on PalTalk going by the handle of "Garsenda" (the name, she tells me, of an 11th(?) century French/Catalan female troubadour and ancestor). Maybe we can coax her into singing the next go 'round.

Afterwards, Beth and I sat down to a delicious dinner of lobster tails with a broccoli, red pepper and smoked gouda dressing. A fine, fine day, all in all. And we're taking tomorrow off so we can relax all we want tonight!

Thanks for a lovely afternoon, all.

Chris

Peg, I've just had a look at the Paltalk FAQ. All it says is Paltalk doesn't support Mac yet so I would imagine they have no plans to provide support in the near future.

Maybe you could try running a PC emulator. Amos would be a good person to ask about that possibility.

Hello all - It is with a deep gratefulness that I say "Thank You" to all who participated in the Circe this Sunday. We had over 20 people in the room most of the time. Not one person was disruptive and everyone was very supportive. Phoebe delighted us with some familiar school tunes - it was so cute!

Garsenda did come in for a bit - I didn't know who it was but they listened for a bit (at least the name rings a bell from yesterday).

It was so nice to see folks coming in and out that were familiar from the Cat' and from other music sessions I've been in. My friend Charlie was pretty excited about the whole thing and will most likely be with us next week - he loved the universality of the circle. It was also pretty cool as he was playing my Dad's old Harmony guitar. It has been a number of years since it was tuned up and played. The guitar goes to my Son this Thursday - 3rd generation of musicians (if you could call us that) to play that guitar.

We'll do it again next Sunday - Thanks again - -

Steve

It was fun, the word of Beth's birthday must have been advertised during one of my absences. Some brilliant music and singing from all over, plus bright Phoebe!

I'm still struggling a bit with my new hardware and software (or rather the integration of my old hardware, since we're talking XP here!)

I sang Jacques Brel's "La Colombe", Bob Dylan's "Love minus Zero / No Limit", "Lord Bateman" with interludes on my Turkish baglama saz and Richard Thompson's "Dimming of the Day".

Guitars by CF Martin, Lanfranc by Mr & Mrs Francis, spontaneous reboots courtesy of Windows XP and AMD, powercuts by Thor via Eastern Electricity.

I had a great time listening in.Thanks all for the afternoon. Myself, I was a first-timer on paltalk and unsure of the workings of it. I think I'll check it out this week to see how my mike works and all, and hopefully make it back in to play on Sunday. It is really an exciting feature to my internet experience (and also a little frightening) to be heard by folks from around the globe. Wow! Rustic

Ivan, I found Month of January in the DT. Isn't this the one you sang? There is no midi in the DT (are you listening MMario?) so if anyone has sheetmusic for it, I can make a midi. Gorgeous song...and you should hear Ivan sing it!
