I'm very sad to report the death, on January 29, of my sister, Susan Taylor. She would have been 53 on March 24th.

Susan's love of folk music began when we were teenagers and she was a loyal volunteer at several folk festivals and counted many folksingers among her friends.

Susan died of lung cancer and one of her last wishes was that I encourage all who smoke to stop.

No one should die so young and so needlessly.

I am so sorry for your loss, Bill. Thank you for sharing with us. It is too young, but sadly happens to many; it has happened in our family, too. I will pass your sister's message on to my husband and son and daughter...all smokers who struggle to overcome it.

May you find solace from sorrow in good memories of your times together.

In Peace,

kat

Thank you.

I'm not sure if Susan was active in the Mudcat group but I found this site through the bookmarks on her computer.

You have my sympathies; we've had this experience in my family as well, and it is indeed totally senseless & unnecessary.

I'm sorry for your loss.

D.

Bill,

I found just one posting which had her name in it, which you may read by clicking here. Was that reference about her? We have many members listed under different versions of "Susan." It is also possible that she used a nickname and that we may never have known her real name. Are you the Bill Taylor who plays harp and is in Scotland?

Sorry, if this seems to prying, but I thought you'd like to know a bit more of what we could find out.

Again, my sympathies,

kat

Bill:

Your post is very touching and I can only offer my heartfelt sympathies. I don't think I had the pleasure of knowing your sister but I wish I had.

Regards,

Amos

So sorry to hear of your loss, Bill

I gave up smoking last year and thought it was the hardest thing I have ever done but compared to burying a sister, well, I guess I had it easy.

My heart is with you - and I second the above about taking the time to let others know. I sometimes worry about losing someone I've never "formally" met and never really knowing what happened to them. Thank you and Bless you

Steve

I remember a guest who said they had terminal lung cancer, and posted messages about stopping smoking. I'd wondered where she'd been as she hadn't posted for a while.

My condolences, Bill. Thanks for thinking of us at this terrible time.

Is this the Susan Taylor who was in the Pozo-Seco Singers -- I ask this only because she seems to be about the right age.

Thank you all for your messages. My sister was not the same Susan Taylor as the one in the Pozo Seco Singers. Truth be told, I've never heard of that group.

Posting messages about her cancer as a way of encouraging others to stop smoking was definitely Susan's style. It was her mission in the last 18 months of her life.

And no, I don't play harp or live in Scotland. I'm not a musician, just a grocery store manager in Lincoln, NH.

I've been here at Susan's for the past two weeks and will be leaving tomorrow for home. I'll look in here again when I next come on line.

Thank you all again.

Thanks for coming back, Bill. It is much appreciated. What a rough task you've had over the past two weeks. Here's one who will never forget Susan's message and her brother who shared it.

In Peace,

kat
