Subject: Folk Venues-Sout-West England From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 16 Feb 02 - 05:35 AM I am posting this for NELLIE (Jenny) who is new to mudcat. Does anybody know any good folk venues in this area, where a harp and recorder would be welcome? Thanks. |
Subject: RE: Folk Venues-Sout-West England From: cyder_drinker Date: 16 Feb 02 - 09:12 AM Where about in the SW? For Bristol area, there's a list of sessions and a load of links at Bristol Pub Sessions. Chris |
Subject: RE: Folk Venues-Sout-West England From: Mr Red Date: 16 Feb 02 - 11:50 AM You mean Mr Red has not saturated the market and you don't know of cresby.com. I am in dereliction of my duty. I list in the Mid West based on Gloucs and environs but cover Wilts & Somerset and within reason down to Exeter. If you find a venue near to the town of choice PM me or e-mail & I will tell you what I know of them, but I don't get to them all, by any means. The only word of caution I would say is to ring the venue if you are travelling any distance because there are sites that don't update often (make that years) and don't update after I email them even. And I claim only to be up-to-date on the day I date stamp (see my lists). I don't want to be too specific on dodgy data they might surprise me, but if the site lists Chipping Sodbury it is to be mistrusted - severely. |
Subject: RE: Folk Venues-Sout-West England From: NELLIE Date: 16 Feb 02 - 12:48 PM To Cider Drinker, John, from Hull and Mr. Red.Thanks for your replies. We run a folk club in Princetown, Dartmoor and know local ones to here, but are looking for venues mainly I think, Somerset area, Devon further up, where as said, a traditional harp and recorder player, could get sessions. Thanks for your help Jenny

Subject: RE: Folk Venues-Sout-West England From: Mr Red Date: 17 Feb 02 - 06:39 AM I went to the Folk Traditions in Bristol more than 10 years ago. The singers' night there went round the room, when it got to one guy who presumeably couldn't or wouldn't sing he said "I'd like to share this song with you" and played the tape recorder. If that helps, he has already set the precedent for you! They book guests once a month I think. |
