As a youngster my mother sang this song to me and it always affected me. It's a simple enough tale about a local vicar who appeals to his congregation for someone to play the church organ, since the usual organist has taken ill. From the body of the congregation appears an old tramp in torn a d ragged clothing who steps up to the organ and plays the most beatiful music anyone there has ever heard. At the end of the service the tramp leaves to a stunned silence never to be seen again. I would dearly love to get hold of the song to (hopefully )put in the repertoire. I believe it might have been a Victorian parlour song or Music Hall piece. Any thoughts out there?
