Subject: RE: Give me my flowers while I'm livin' From: catspaw49 Date: 26 Feb 02 - 08:47 AM GIVE ME FLOWERS WHILE I'M LIVING (Louise Certain, Elvin Bigger, Gladys Stacey) Cedarwood Pub. Co. Inc. - BMI In this world today while we are living Some folks say the worst of us they can But when we are dead and in our casket They always slip some lilies in our hands In this world is where we need our flowers A kind word to help us get along If you can't give me flowers while I'm living Please don't send them when I'm gone Won't you give me my flowers while I'm living And let me enjoy them while I can Please don't wait until I'm ready to be buried And then slip some lilies in my hand Won't you give me my flowers while I'm living And let me enjoy them while I can Please don't wait until I'm ready to be buried And then slip some lilies in my hand Spaw |

Subject: RE: Give me my flowers while I'm livin' From: Janie Date: 27 Feb 02 - 12:46 PM I know this is a bit of thread creep, but there is a wonderful book "don't send me flowers when i'm dead, Voices of the Rural Elderly" edited by Eva J. Salber and published by Duke University Press. The title is taken from an interview with an elderly North Carolina woman who expresses the exact sentiments of the song. Her name was Annie Lane, and I quote "I tell people, don't send me flowers when I'm dead. I want them now. It wouldn't do me two cents worth of good after I'm dead to put me in my grave and put a pile of flowers on me as big as this house. If you've got a flower you want me to have, give it to me while I'm living."(pg. 21) |
