When I was young my mum used to sing a song which had the refrain

Hang on the bell, Nelly> Hang on the bell,> xxxxxx is locked in an old prison cell,> As it swings to the left> And it swings to the right> Remember the bell must never ring tonight.

Does this errr ring any bells (sorry) with anyone? I think its music hall.

Hi, Zipster, welcome to the Mudcat.

If you go to the Digitrad database search box at the top of the page and click on the "H" then scroll down to here (please click) you will find the song you are looking for.

It's always a good idea to check the DT, first and also to use the supersearch for the Forum to see if any other threads have been poste for a song.

Anyway, have fun with it, look around here and explore a bit of the Newcomers Permathread, but please, don't ever hesitate to ask if you can't find something.

Masato, many thanks for that. I'm very interested in the link to Blanche Heriot as this fits more closely with what my mum told me. It doesnt fit so well to the cowboy lyrics though, any thoughts as to why this is?
