As you all know, the Grammy's are on tonight. What do you think the chances are for one of the blues/folk albums (Dylan's "Love and Theft" or "O' Brother" Soundtrack) could win album of the year?

I'm really pulling for these two (although the U2 album is quite good as well)

Figures on the one night there is something I want to see on TV, I'm going to see some live music (the great Chicago bluesman, Buddy Guy).

Dylan will win something, although I think O' Brother will get album of the year. I think Love & Theft is more deserving.

I see Dylan is also contending for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance.

I am CONFUSED. How can a tune which was released ten years ago be in contention for this year's Grammy ? Joe Satriani's, "Always With You, ALways With Me" is in contention for best instrumental something or other. Don't get me wrong. It is truly a masterpiece. I have never heard guitar played with more deeply human emotion simply dripping from the strings, but why is it in contention this year. Can you enter the same song year sfter year, or any one year if never entered before ?

Ooh, TMBG is nominated for "Boss of Me?" Cooooool.

I hope Björk wins something. I hope U2 loses EVERYTHING. (Awards, fortunes, homes, dogs, wives. I don't think much of them, you see...) Brave Combo'd better win for best Polka Album.

I don't think "OB,WAT?" will win Album of the Year, but that would be great. (I think it'll get an award for best soundrack, though.) I'd be happy if Outkast won, too. U2 will win it, though. (Grrr, pricks.)

Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album ~~ "Two Old Friends" by Merle Haggard and Albert E. Brumley Jr.

There's my vote, and certainly among those of most interest in the Ozarks.

GUEST:

You are correct. I did misuse the apostrophe in this case. However, since they are the Grammy Awards, an apostophe could be used in certain instances. For example, this is Grammy's biggest night.

But thanks for pointing that out.

I didn't watch the whole show - haven't watched a whole Grammy Awards in a LONG time- but what I did see, pleased me. I thought some of the nominees were unworthy but overall was happy with the winners, especially Train, and O Brother.

Y'all who don't care for U2 may say what you will, but it is pretty darn amazing that 20 years later they are the Same Four Guys. That's a rare thing in the music business. And I'm glad to see they have got back to making some good music.

There are a couple of things that confound me, though. How do they decide what's "rock" and what's "pop"? And who in the sam hill thought Destiny's Child should ever be in the same category of ANYTHING with Alicia Keys?

Gnu, I don't keep up with Joe Satriani, but it may be that the song was re-released in the proper time period for this year's awards, in which case it would be eligible.

Earl Scruggs, Ralph Stanley, Bela Fleck and all the O Brother wins. A pretty good night for Banjo Picker's.

Dylan getting Best Contemporary Folk album? I'm a huge Dylan fan. I'm not to trying to re-open the oldest debate on the 'Cat, but I don't see Love & Theft as a folk album.

Here is a complete list of the winners.

Hah, I'm so glad I was wrong about 'best album.' And TMBG won, too. :)

U@... Heh-heh, Kim. Same Four Guys, Playing the Same Damned Song and Whining the Same Damned Whine after all these years IS impressive. ;)

And any man who calls himself 'The Edge' needs to be kicked in the balls. Seriously.

Thanks Kim for that site . I didn't watch the whole show either tried to but got distracted by other things. I was really glad to see Train win and u2 ( I like them always have , guess it is just a matter of taste ) only one I could have done ompletly without is Nelly Furtato , sorry I really can not stand her songs but oh well someone must like them . My 8 yr old daughter was beyond thrilled to see the Back Street Boys even though they didn't sing (TG for small favors lol ) . mmm

mmm - Dylan's voice is GONE. It never was strong, and he probably damaged it by smoking and by perversely singing off-key all those years, but what you heard is what's left of it now. The good news is that the man himself seems to have cleaned up his act (sobered up) and is actually trying to sing well and to put on a good show. And his band ROCKS!

What frightens me is that he appears to be channeling Vincent Price!

Michael
