Last weekend I was lucky enough to purchase 'It all comes out the Cod End' which is a CD of Songs performed by various artists including Scolds Bridle in a show performed on the Saturday Night at Fylde last September- I know I was there!!It was a fantastic night which included a naked man riding round the hall on a bicycle for the OMO Song!!where any other mudcatters there??

The show is about the Fishing Community in Fleetwood and the history of the fishing industry. It was a really fantastic night with a great atmosphere and no matter what you think of the town of Fleetwood, the Songs are fantastic.

I suppose I am submitting this message to thank all those involved in the show/CD and to recommend it to anyone because it is a CD I don't think you will find everyday. Thats all

Whew. I was afraid this was some strange continuation of the enemas thread! Sounds much more interesting!

LJC, Fleetwood is a fishing port in NW England a few miles north of Blackpool.

OMO was (is?) a brand of washing powder in England. The song concerns a married lady whose husband was often away. She signalled this to her paramours by putting a packet of OMO in the front window of her house to convey the meaning "Old Man's Out" or OMO for short.

WassaiL! V

You're right, Kipling - it is excellent, especially 'Flowers of the Sea' which sent a shiver down my back. I won a raffle at the Shellbacks weekend, and I'm so glad I chose this CD rather than the usual wine (most unusual for me, I have to say!! - I must be getting old!) Not sure why I keep coming up as 'Guest' - help!

Thanks Snuffy for answering that. When Scold's Bridle sing the 'OMO' Song they used to produce a box of the famous washing powder which I think for some strange reason they used to carry around full, but later got fed up with the weight factor so emptied it.

I don't know if you can still by 'OMO' in this country however, Does anyone know? Unfortunately I think i've got decide between Fylde (Fleetwood) Festival and the Hull Festival. Damn!!!

"OMO" - great little story. I was assuming this thread would be filled with outrageous puns, such as nearer my cod to thee. I hope this my sole disappointment for the day...

Kipling - it depends what you're looking for but Hull usually has a greater international line-up, with performers from the continent and the USA. There's also more 'catters per hectare round here than anywhere else in the world. Try to do both festivals!

I agree, Scolds Bridle put on a great show, smashing songs, lovely voices.

Most of the songs in the show were written by Ron Baxter and Ross Campbell who, when performing together, go by the name of Red Duster...we've got 'em booked at the Open Door in Failsworth, Manchester in July if any 'catters are interested. (www.opendoorfolkclub.co.uk).
The show is a re-working and expansion of 'The Final Trawl' show from the '80's...the tape of that production is still available from Chantey Cabin or Fleetwood museum.

All the best..........Harry.
