Subject: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Little Hawk Date: 28 Feb 02 - 12:49 PM This is my attempt to create an even more boring thread subject than Greg's. So whaddya think? If no one posts to it I will have succeeded. I fear, though, that someone may, simply because William Shatner's lyrical (and musical) revisions of popular songs are so compelling and original that they are hard to ignore... Well, we'll see. - LH Previous Shatner Threads (click) (please do not refresh them) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: GUEST Date: 28 Feb 02 - 12:52 PM Well I'll post to tell you that you're an arsehole |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Little Hawk Date: 28 Feb 02 - 12:56 PM Awright! I'm not sure that qualifies as genuine interest in the thread, but I sure appreciate the endorsement, anyway. :-) - LH |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Little Hawk Date: 28 Feb 02 - 01:05 PM You know, I don't think that GUESTS (though their kindly and generally helpful nature is indisputable) really qualify in determining how boring this thread subject is. The reason is, most GUESTS are not well enough informed on the general setup at Mudcat, and could easily be misled in some way regarding the whole intent of this exercise. So...only if regular Mudcat members totally ignore this thread will it have proven to be more boring than Greg's. Okay? As far as I am concerned this thread is still the most boring one out there, and I have yet to be convinced otherwise. - LH |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: GUEST Date: 28 Feb 02 - 01:50 PM Aww... I'm a Guest and I've been hanging around here for a while now. I just haven't bothered to get a cookie yet. At any rate, I have the feeling someone posted as GUEST due to the nature of their post. I had no idea Shatner ever ::shudder:: sung professionally |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: GUEST,Desdemona at work Date: 28 Feb 02 - 02:01 PM It IS immortal, and clearly more moving than that boring nasal Dylan rendition; that said, it is still eclipsed by Shatner's "Mr. Tambourine Man", in which, as I believe it was stated in the liner notes for "Golden Throats", he screams the chorus with a "maniacal fury"....what a talent. A true Renaissance Man; is there anything he CAN'T do?! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wi From: greg stephens Date: 28 Feb 02 - 02:02 PM Professionally, Jim, but not as we know it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Little Hawk Date: 28 Feb 02 - 02:02 PM Not bad. It's been an hour, and only 2 GUESTS. Dear GUEST #2...Yes! Bill Shatner did record an album, so I guess you could say he has "sung professionally"...sort of. His versions of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and "Mr. Tambourine Man" have to be heard to be believed. Trust me. Greg, I am closing in on the prize... - LH |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Little Hawk Date: 28 Feb 02 - 02:46 PM Oops. Greg and Des slipped in there while I was typing. Well, I'm still leading by a post or 2 under, not counting GUESTS. - LH |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Mrrzy Date: 28 Feb 02 - 03:03 PM So, did the lurics get changed? (Yes, I know I typoed Lyrics, but I kind of like the neologism, when talking about Kirk singing, somehow, lurid does come to mind...) Where's Mbo when you need him? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: khandu Date: 28 Feb 02 - 05:42 PM Shatner's version is outstanding! As is everthing the MAN puts his hand to do! Unfortuntely, Little Hawk, I do not have the lyrics. Have you caught his rendition of "Both Sides Now"? It sends chills to my spine...so hauntingly beautiful! One other thing, Little Hawk,...How do you expect no one to respond to a thread that mentions the Great Shatner in the thread name? This does not compute! Des is correct; "what a talent. A true Renaissance Man; is there anything he CAN'T do?!" khandu

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Mickey191 Date: 28 Feb 02 - 06:30 PM I've heard Mr. Shatner & Miss Charlotte Church are going on a world tour together. They are asking the public to suggest songs. "There's a place for us." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Little Hawk Date: 28 Feb 02 - 06:34 PM Intriguing...who is Miss Charlotte Church? She is obviously a VERY lucky (and I hope, plucky) woman! - LH |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: artbrooks Date: 28 Feb 02 - 06:59 PM Azerbijan...Bangladesh...Croatia...Dubai All the good places...or maybe its ones that never heard of him... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Mickey191 Date: 28 Feb 02 - 07:22 PM Little Hawk, you may want to check out the Carrickfergus thread which mentions the 16 yr. old Charlotte Church. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: khandu Date: 28 Feb 02 - 07:49 PM That is only partly correct...it is Shatner, Church and Dylan. Perhaps this will be recorded and released, unlike the previous Shatner/Dylan efforts! khandu |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: mack/misophist Date: 28 Feb 02 - 08:26 PM There IS one thing the great Shatner can't do. Act. Maybe two things. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: folkmonster Date: 28 Feb 02 - 08:52 PM All these things pale into insignificance besides the great, one and only Leonard Nimoy. His rendition of 'If I had a hammer' is without parallel, captain (damn!) FM |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wi From: greg stephens Date: 28 Feb 02 - 09:04 PM Sorry Little Hawk you've pooped out completely. The object of the challenge was to set up a thread that generated no interest whatever, You have failed, dismally. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wi From: greg stephens Date: 28 Feb 02 - 09:16 PM PS: i'm right.I've just had a look. My "Lyr Req:Blowing in the Wind" has sunk without trace. As has "HELP:how to do an E chord". Even the contender "Lyr req:WILD ROVER" (I think the capital letters were a mistake), which failed at first by generating some serious discussion, has now plummeted successfully . As of now you are up there as a serious LOSER. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Amergin Date: 28 Feb 02 - 09:58 PM well....my job may be blowin' in the wind....soon... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Little Hawk Date: 28 Feb 02 - 10:07 PM Greg, I am crushed. I thought this thread would die miserably after a couple of idle GUEST comments. I'm not as boring as I thought I was (sigh). Oh well, at least I have succeeded in a little subversive Shatnerizing, boldly spreading the legend of the Great Man where none have had the bad judgement to spread it before. I agree that Nimoy's rendition of "If I Had A Hammer" is...impressive. But does it "rock"? Shatner ROCKS! He's even brought back a few rocks from strange new worlds, and he's got his rocks off on them too in more than a few episodes! What a talent! To say he can't act is not quite fair...he can...BADLY. This business of coming up with the most boring thread on Mudcat is not that easy. I'm frankly surprised that "Wild Rover" didn't win it, hands down. - LH |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: GUEST,Desdemona at work Date: 01 Mar 02 - 10:29 AM Charlotte Church? Who IS this bitch?! I'll scratch her eyes out!!! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Stilly River Sage Date: 01 Mar 02 - 12:09 PM I heard something on the news a couple of days ago about Shatner's 40-year-old daughter setting up a web site for him. Her age might have been a little older; I wonder why that was even included? Anyway, has anyone seen this new source of Shatner material? Desdemona? SRS |

He's just a regular person, much like us.For one so multi- talented to be kind & generous to his myriad of fans is heartwarming. He even signed an autograph for my cousin Matilda. What a guy! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: MMario Date: 01 Mar 02 - 02:37 PM He must have changed a lot then - when I saw him in public appearences back in the 70's he was a walking ego. a *boring* walking ego. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Mickey191 Date: 01 Mar 02 - 03:03 PM Mario, it MUST have been someone else. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: GUEST,Joe Date: 02 Mar 02 - 12:29 AM MARIO, I think it's a joke-about how nice Shatner is. It is facetious humor. Get it? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Little Hawk Date: 02 Mar 02 - 02:05 PM Hey, Mario, when you've got it all, a little arrogance is forgivable, and Big Bill has got it all...sex appeal, virility, a unique speech pattern, an acting style no one else has succeeded in emulating, and singing ability that simply goes so far beyond the ordinary that the results are...ineffable. I have now accepted the fact that this thread has failed utterly in the "most boring thread" competition, and am going to use it to shamelessly plug William Shatner instead. Thanks to all who have contributed, and a big raspberry to Spaw for not doing so... P-P-P-P-L-L-L-L-A-A-A-A-A-R-R-R-R-R-PH-H-H-H-T!!!! - LH |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Desdemona Date: 02 Mar 02 - 02:13 PM "Boring"? How could it possibly have a hope of being boring when even the merest whiff of....HIM is involved?! His very essence is that of inexpressible but awe-inspiring WONDER! A thread about automobile parts: boring. A thread about meatloaf: boring. BUT, a thread about Big Bill? Never! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: GUEST,PZBrown Date: 02 Mar 02 - 07:27 PM Desdemona, I just heard there is going to be a remake of Gone With The Wind, and William Shatner is a cinch for Rhett. It is to be a musical. Could you die? Open call for Scarlet's part. Any ideas? I'm sure Billy will be so good we'll forget all about Gable. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: sophocleese Date: 02 Mar 02 - 08:50 PM What a lovely idea!! Could we get Keanu Reeves as Ashley? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: khandu Date: 02 Mar 02 - 09:59 PM Carol C. as Aunt Pittypat! Kendall as Scarlett's father. Little Hawk as Scarlett's unfortunate husband who ran the lumber company. Spaw as one of the un-named and un-noticed and unimportant extras! khandu |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: SINSULL Date: 02 Mar 02 - 09:59 PM And Madonna as Melanie. Whoopie Goldberg can play Prissy. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: khandu Date: 02 Mar 02 - 10:07 PM NO,No, Sinsull! Michael Jackson can play Prissy! khandu |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Little Hawk Date: 02 Mar 02 - 10:11 PM LOL! The mind boggles... - LH |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: sophocleese Date: 03 Mar 02 - 09:55 PM I think Whoopi Goldberg would be great as Prissy! Harrison Ford as the unfortunate husband who runs the lumber yard (It would be pure cruelty to give him a larger part; he would look so bad next to Shatner). |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Little Hawk Date: 04 Mar 02 - 11:23 AM Oh yeah, for sure... :-) Big Bill has much neater ears than Gable did. Joan Collins would have made a great Scarlett when she was younger. Maybe we could get Charlotte Church in there somewhere too... - LH |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Desdemona Date: 04 Mar 02 - 12:14 PM If Bill is to be Rhett, then I, yes *I*, and no other, must be Scarlett! The fact that it's to be a musical only makes it that much more my destiny.....O, to be NEAR that golden throat when it pours forth its glorious song.....! (Who on earth will be writing the score, and WHOSE idea could this have BEEN?!?!) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Little Hawk Date: 04 Mar 02 - 02:56 PM Someone called PZBrown seems to have thought it up. It's great to see, Des, that you have not given up on your dreams. Maybe we could pool the talent at Mudcat, and come up with some really great songs that would allow Mr. Shatner to reach the full range of his singing and acting ability. This could end up being bigger than Star Wars and Lord of the Rings put together if it's done right! - LH |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: alanabit Date: 04 Mar 02 - 03:58 PM I don't think anyone could possibly write anything quite that short... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shatner version of Blowin' In The Wind From: Desdemona Date: 04 Mar 02 - 04:13 PM Yes, I can see it now: all the stars are finally in the proper alignment for this COSMIC CONJUNCTION to occur and...dare I say it?...bear (undoubtedly strange) fruit! We'll ALL have a chance to work ever so CLOSELY with The Man (but especially me, obviously---hands off, space vixens!), and produce something that we can leave as a legacy for future generations to enjoy, learn from, and be inspired by....please excuse me, I'm feeling a little verklemt..... |
