Hi all,

Mark Campbell here..

Quote from

http://www.classicthemes.com/technologyTimeline.html

1939 - National radio hit advertising jingle "Pepsi-Cola Hits The Spot" is written by Eric Siday and Ginger Johnson, adapted from the tune of an 18th-century English hunting song titled "John Peel".

Anyone know anything about John Peel?

The song is here: John Peel

But I'm not sure if its the same tune...I remember the "Pepsi" tune as sounding different.

Thanks all.

Turns out John Peel has sparked lots of discussion in the past 3 years.

I think this songs its predecessors and derivatives would make a good set of tunes (with gaelic and welsh where required).

My band Tursacan may well be interested in a new millenium version of John Peel (with global "odd rhythms" to spice things up even more).

the Pepsi jingle was very close to the "John Peel" tune...except for the last line, which Pepsi changed a bit to make it fit a short jingle

The tune has also notably been used for "Cats on the Rooftops", q.v. in the database.
