It is with great sadness that I write to tell you all that Brian Osborne died yesterday whilst fishing. At this time I have very few details but I will update this thread with any details and news of funeral arrangements and wakes.

From Brians CD Cover
Lurking in the shadows of what has become an amazingly eclectic folk scene with its roots music and "superbands", is Brian Osborne, a singer, songwriter whose pedigree goes back to the beginnings of the folk revival itself and even beyond to fifties Rock and Roll and Skiffle. As a member of The Taverners folk group he was a major force in the folk scene of the 60's and 70's and after the demise of the group continued as a popular solo artist.

Brian was a lovely man and he will be missed by all that his life touched. RIP.

He certainly will be missed. The last time Geoff and I saw him was at Ingleton last year, and we were both so impressed with his lovely style of singing - his personality also came through as a real gentle person (and a gentleman).

For anyone in the Blackpool area tomorrow.

The Falcon at Poulton (Wednesday 27th.) should have been holding its open mic night - it has been decided that we will not be using a PA instead we will have a night for Brian.

An open evening of sitting, drinking, singing, talking and remembering Brian with a few numbers from his CD - how I dread playing "the parting glass"

everyone welcome starting 9.00pm ish.

The Falcon Pub. Hardhorn Way, Poulton. Nr Blackpool

I have many happy memories of seeing Brian in the Blackpool Taverners, both at the Manchester Sports Guild (MSG) and the Golden Lion in Withington.

May he be remembered with affection.

I have been asked by a number of different people to broadcast the memorial programme to Brian after his funeral and not before. This I can well understand. So the programme will now take place on the nextThursday after the 5th of April. Both Mally and I knew Brian for many years, the world is a sadder place without Brians smile.

hi all, just bin listening to radio lancashire's tribute to Brian Osborne - a nice gesture. I still have the Taverner's LP 'Seldom Sober' from 1970 featuring some great songs. Brian's voice was superb. I first saw Brian with the Taverners at, i think, MSG in M/c. A sad loss to the folk scene - condolences to his family and well done radio lancs!!
