Subject: My Mother's Name - old C&W
From: GUEST,Les
Date: 30 Mar 02 - 03:17 PM

Looking for any info about an old song. Lyrics I can recall:

"Your daddy was a gambling man,” my mother said to me.
He left me when you were a child and was all the world to me.

I know your daddy loved me too for tattooed on his arm
??? ??? ??? ?? and was his good luck charm

I didn't heed my mother's to leave the cards alone.
I took to daddy's ???? and left my mother home.

One night a gang was gather round. We played a hand of stud.
An old man set across from me and this is what I saw.

From out his sleeve he pulled a card and I pulled out my gun.
I shot him dead not knowing then the ??? that I had done.

He fell across the table - his hands reached out in vain.
His sleeve rolled up and on his arm I saw my mother’s name

HTML line breaks added. --JoeClone, 2-Apr-02.

I did a quick google search and came up with this. It is apparently a Hank Thompson song, and is available at this link: (Sorry, I don't know how to create a hyperlink on this board, so you'll have to copy and paste.) www.allcountry.de/Songbook_Interpreten/Interpreten_T/Thompson_Hank/ body_thompson_hank.html

PS. On google, I typed in "Your daddy was a gambling man" Be sure to use the quotes.

Well, that URL was not found, so maybe the think I clickified was not the exact part of the address I needed.

Lardingo, if you can find the site again, just paste this directly in front of the address (no space between):

some word(s)

Note: where I wrote "some words" you can put anything you like--the song title, the words "click here," or whatever. That part will BE the blue clicky.

Sorry about that last head-scratcher of a post. I was trying to post INSTRUCTIONS on making a blue clicky, and, despite my taking what I thought were adequate precautions against it, the blurb got changed into a blue clicky--except it's one that goes nowhere!

I'll just refer anyone who cares to the HTML instruction threads here at Mudcat.

“He left me when you were a child, but he was all this world to me.”

I know your daddy loved me too, for tattooed on his arm
Was a heart of love that bore my name and was his good luck charm.

I didn’t heed my mother’s words to leave the cards alone.
I took to gambling just like dad and left my mother’s home.

One night a gang was gathered ‘round. We dealt a hand of draw.
An old man sat across from me and this is what I saw.

From out his sleeve he pulled a card and I pulled out my gun.
I shot him dead not knowing then what evil I had done.

He fell across the table. His hands reached out in vain.
His sleeve slid back and upon his arm I could see so plain.

I gazed down at his lifeless form and I hung my head in shame,
For upon his arm was a tattooed heart and I saw my mother’s name.
