Subject: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 11 Apr 02 - 05:33 PM The gathering will take place on 24th May (ie weekend BEFORE the jubilee bank holiday) at the George and Dragon Pub West Haddlesey. A local farmer has let us have use of a piece of land 200 yards from the pub which has hard standing for caravans and soft ground for tents. We may still be able to use the small bit of land ajacent to the pub but the other site has water etc and is so close anyway. A number of you have already said you would be coming on the previous thread (I'll compile a list soon) but anyone else will be very welcome. The pub is easy to find about half way between the M62 and Selby off the A19. Those who have visited the Jug just turn right instead of left at the crossroads just past Eggborough power station. Its about a mile down the road on the left. Again I will organise a map. So air your tents and your voices and hope to see you there. Jane |
Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: mouldy Date: 12 Apr 02 - 02:26 AM If you're coming from the M62 direction, turn left instead of right at the crossroads! Andrea |
Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: mooman Date: 12 Apr 02 - 04:39 AM Thanks Jane, We will book our "Pride of Rotterdam" tickets straight away! mooman and Lady McMoo |
Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: IvanB Date: 12 Apr 02 - 09:20 AM As I said in the other thread, I, and, I believe, My wife will be there for Saturday. Are things organized for this weekend (i.e., are there planned times for song circles, sessions, etc.) or is it mainly spontaneous? And, what sort of weather does one expect in Yorkshire in late May? |
Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: Geoff the Duck Date: 12 Apr 02 - 09:38 AM Ivan - The George and Dragon is essentially one big room, so singers and players will have to share space. This means that there will be some system in operation to ensure that everyone gets a chance to do their own thing without stepping on other toes. As yet we have not finalised how it will work, but we are working on the idea of designating time slots for different interests. Beyond that, we want to make the weekend as free and easy a possible. I am sure that Mrs Duck will be giving more details as things develop. Quack! GtD |
Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: Catherine Jayne Date: 12 Apr 02 - 11:15 AM GRAND!!!! Jez and I will be there....can't wait!!! see you all soon cat and Jez xxx |
Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 12 Apr 02 - 01:06 PM As to weather Ivan just expect lots of it! Our seasons are never so clear cut that we can predict! Anything from snow to a heatwave is possible. Last year it was good weather and we spent a lot of time outside (around 70fahrenheit during the day but cooler at night) There is a patio area outside that could be used during the day for music or singing but at night we will definitely be in the pub so as long as it doesn't pour on everyones tents we should have a great time. |
Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 12 Apr 02 - 01:09 PM As promised HERE is the map. |
Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: IvanB Date: 12 Apr 02 - 02:07 PM Thanks for the map. And, as for the weather, it sounds exactly like Michigan - people here tend to say "If you don't like the weather, just wait an hour, it'll change." Can't recall a late May snowstorm in my lifetime, but I've heard it's happened. Looking forward to the gathering, and thanks, Jane for your organizing effort. |
Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: selby Date: 13 Apr 02 - 02:06 PM On Wednesday night at our usual session I counted 22 paticipants so if any one is in any doubt about the new venue you have no need. Please come, support Jane and enjoy. Keith |
Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: mouldy Date: 14 Apr 02 - 02:04 AM We even got the pub piano let out of its cage at the end of the evening for a few moments...let's just say it has traditional "pub tuning"! (All the keys make a noise so you could sort of say it works). Andrea |
Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: 8_Pints Date: 14 Apr 02 - 04:50 PM It looks increasingly likely that Bob and I will be able to come - hopefully we'll have our new Campervan by then. If not then we'll have to bring the Panzer again! Sue vG |

Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: Geoff the Duck Date: 07 May 02 - 05:52 AM Mr Happy - The area around Selby is pretty flat and a lot of it is under cultivation, so there isn't much walking in the imediate vicinity. That said, the George & Dragon keeps a collection of booklets with circular walks around bits of Yorkshire. Some of these are not too far from where we will be based. As you head towards Leeds the countryside becomes lumpier but more rolling than hilly. As mentioned, we will not be far from the M62 (about 30/40 minutes drive will get you to places such as Hebden Bridge where there are REAL hills. If you take the A1 North you can get then cut across to the Yorkshire Dales. There is some good hill walking at places such as Kettlewell in Upper Wharfedale. Camping facilities will be basic as we are not on official campsites, it is just land belonging to farmers near to the pub. If you need to discuss anything in greater detail, send me a MudcatMail Personal Message, and I can give you a phone number. Quack! Geoff. |

Subject: RE: All set for Yorkshire gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 09 May 02 - 01:01 PM And so to food!! Wendy is willing to put on full English on Saturday morning for those that want. Sunday morning will be bacon butties only up until about 9.30 as she has to get ready for the Sunday lunches (which some of you may be interested in!) On Saturday evening there will be a buffet before the evening session (around 6ish) The cost for this has yet to be fixed but I would not expect it to be unreasonable and hope that everyone will be happy with that. As everyone arrives at different times we felt it easier to leave Friday night open as far as food goes. The pub does a good selection of meals so you could eat there or there are one or two take away places within a few miles. The curried twiglets are also rather good!!!! Jane |

It's too big to go inside the car so I have to tow it behind the car. It's not a van but it has carpets cutains and a settee! What is it? You'll just have to come to Holmfirth FF this weekend to find out. |
