Subject: folk clubs in bristol uk? From: GUEST,curious cathy Date: 12 Apr 02 - 10:50 AM I wonder if anyone can help. Some friends of mine are coming over from america to visit the uk this summer and will be in central Bristol for three nights from Friday 21st June - I was wondering if there are any singarounds or folk clubs on over that weekend. Also any other suggestions about where it might be good to go and eat etc, would be gratefully recieved (I suppose it's obvious, I live in the UK, but I don't know Bristol at all) Thanks in advance Cathy |
Subject: RE: Help: folk clubs in bristol uk? From: Watson Date: 12 Apr 02 - 10:56 AM Have a look at Mr Red's web site - he lists clubs and sessions in that part of the world. |
Subject: RE: Help: folk clubs in bristol uk? From: Mr Red Date: 12 Apr 02 - 02:30 PM Beat me to it. I also link to other Bristol site but i have to say I know some are out of date in places and that is after e-mails from me. & I don't guarrantee any data after the update date - see cresby.com |
Subject: RE: Help: folk clubs in bristol uk? From: Mr Red Date: 12 Apr 02 - 02:33 PM Dragon FC in Shortwood on Fri SAR, if I am not at Alcester FF I could be there. I will keep it in my diary. e-mail me (from the contact page if necessary). |
Subject: RE: Help: folk clubs in bristol uk? From: GUEST,Pasty muncher Date: 12 Apr 02 - 07:51 PM Have a look at Bristol Pub Sessions, that one covers the City of Bristol area specifically. I travel to Bristol quite a bit and find it a useful resource. |
Subject: RE: Help: folk clubs in bristol uk? From: GUEST Date: 13 Apr 02 - 11:33 AM Thanks very much everyone - Mr Red. That looks good - is it taxi distance from the city centre? and is it performers? singaround etc. etc... (questions questions...) - as I write, I've just realised SAR probably means 'singaround' which is just up my street - goody! Thanks - so far this is looking like a definite probable, Cathy |
Subject: RE: Help: folk clubs in bristol uk? From: Mr Red Date: 13 Apr 02 - 12:42 PM Taxi is easiest because directions are difficult. I would say 5 miles from centre maximum, in direction of Pucklechurch (east) alongside new bypass by not on it! Singaround with occ mini feature, don't drink the Thatchers cider if it is orange - go for Taunton! I link to sessions there but the one above looks new to me Thanks Pasty (or should that be pastie?) will investigate & maybe link to. |
Subject: RE: Help: folk clubs in bristol uk? From: cyder_drinker Date: 14 Apr 02 - 06:55 AM I'll agree with that, Mr Red! I'll only touch Thatchers' if it's a reassuring tinge of greenish yellow! I've been maintaining the Bristol sessions site for about 18 months now, it's not easy having to keep going to sessions to make sure they're happening! Thanks to pasty for the input. I'll put a link to your site in there, Mr Red - you have more links to other sites, and cover quite a bit of the area surrounding my "catchment". If that's OK with you, of course...!

Subject: RE: Help: folk clubs in bristol uk? From: GUEST Date: 15 Apr 02 - 10:41 AM Thanks so much for the help everyone. I think probably the Dragon on Friday night is the best bet. It's just an option at the moment though so I wouldn't want anyone to make any special arrangements to be there. Perhaps I'll get in touch nearer the time if I know anything more definite? Thanks again, Cathy |
