My guest this Thursday on Folk Roots/Folk Branches be Eve Goldberg.

Three years ago, I reviewed Eve's album, Ever Brightening Day, in Sing Out! Magazine (Vol. 43, #3) and said:

"On her excellent debut album, Eve Goldberg emerges as an accomplished folk generalist comfortable and adept at such styles as blues, ragtime and country-tinged folk music. She can pick out a nifty instrumental one minute and nail an a cappella ballad the next. Goldberg wrote four of the dozen selections and shows a great sense of song selection in picking material from the catalogues of Kate Wolf, Jean Ritchie, Bessie Smith, Cathy Fink, Mississippi John Hurt and Sing Out! songfinder Shelly Posen. And, much of the cream of the Toronto music scene is on board playing always-tasteful backup and singing harmonies. Check out the Dixieland extravaganza that closes the album on My Creole Belle."

Eve will be joining me at about 10:00 am. Before and after her visit, there'll be lots of great music on the show.

Folk Roots/Folk Branches is heard Thursday mornings from 9:00-11:30 (Eastern) on CKUT, 90.3 FM, in Montreal and in RealAudio from the Folk Roots/Folk Branches website.

If you're not familiar with Eve's music, check her out on Mike's show. I've been lucky enough to have had her as a friend since she was in her teens, and as a student for a couple of years. She's been one of Toronto's most comitted singers for a number of years, often going out on those picket lines and demonstrations, keeping folks' spirits up. She does a great job on old country songs and blues, and I think you'll really like her music. Thanks for letting us know, Mike.

Cheers

Rick
