"The Green Eye of the Little Yellow God" My mother used to recite this to us as children but I have long since forgotten it. Has anyone got the lyrics?

I love music hall stuff. The dramatic monologues were very popular in Music Halls for some years but comedians couldn't resist ... erm ... taking liberties.

I don't know if this will appear as a clicky but check out the wonderful site at:-

http://www.monologues.co.uk/Greeneye.htm

The original appears underneath Billy Bennett's version, followed by a Geordie version ("Geordie" refers to people from the Newcastle/Tyneside region of the UK - which has a somewhat distinctive regional accent - ref. trad. opus "Take yer boots off Geordie hinny")

There's a bsndy-legged barmaid,
Serving pints in Carrigtouhill
In a cozy little pub below the town
There's a broken-hearted bank clerk,
Drinking pints of Murphy's brew, And getting mouldy drunk for half-a crown.

Guest:Grayd; Isn't it "Keep yer feet still Geordie Hinny, let's be happy thru the neet" ?

And don't let anyone dissuade you, perform it straight. If you sound as though you mean it, there won't be a dry seat in the house by the time you get to the end.

Steve
