Ok... its that time of the year again..... and I'm asking you to start taking pics.....

we've done "nearly nude" for the last 2 years.... this year I thought we'd try something different...

I was thinking.... "dress as you favourite character from a folk song"......

what does anyone else think?

Gee, alison, I dunno -- Barbry Ellen? The Strawberry Roan? The Mary Ellen Carter? The Golden Vanity? Old Shep????!!

This makes nudity seem easy by comparison!!

That opens the door to some pretty bawdy characters -- the village idiot, the local sheriff, several varieties of tinkers of remarkable endowment. And the ones that are really my favorites, like the Captain's daughter Charlotte, I could never pass the physical on!! :>)

OOOOOH "The Bird In A Gilded Cage"! Now where the hell am I going to get a cage?

How about fantasy pictures with Mudcatters of the NYCFTTS and The House Of The Setting Sun? Or dress up as your favorite Mudcat character - Cleigh O'Possum, Cletus, Spaw, the Reg boys, a potato peeler, a condom, a moustache tuner, etc.

Or an all Neil Young Calendar with each 'Catter dressed as the asylum's namesake? Our own version of Elvis Impersonators. Or a calendar by country featuring 'Catters from all over the world? Or an "All Max" calendar with pictures of 'Catters with the Great One? Superimpositions allowed, encouraged even.

Sorry, I am babbling. Anything to avoid housework.

There is much potential in the shots from Mudcat gatherings. Put four or so on a page and lay it out to look like a family photo album.

I don't know if I am more relieved than anxious about that...I mean, the idea of trying to hide behind one of my bodhrans was a bit unnerving, so a not nearly nude for my first entry was a relief...but now, I gotta somehow figure out *what* folk song is my favorite, and then dress the part. ACK!!! It's a toss up between dressing like the island of Mingulay, or Maui. :D

Pets are good. Babies....eeeeyyyy. Maybe just 'Cats in their natural environment. Say now, what about ALL the cats send in a new photo for each year and we can just put whatever photo we like to each month - as long as we send our ten bucks to Max, everyone's happy.

Nah, stick with the nudes.... I mean, I'm gonna send my donations anyway and I'm gonna get a calendar anyway, so, if semi-nudity sells calendars and generates money, what the hey. Although, I like the pet idea and I think it would sell more calendars. I'd buy the pets one long before the near-nude, if I had to choose.

So, we've got the almost nude, the pets (forgive my boldness, but I think it will sell - everyone likes pets), so what's next ?

Yeah! Mudcatters mudcatting! A picture of a mudcatter next to a screen showing some mudcat thread! I've even got one for that, I think... showing the backs of Little Hawk, flattop, and CarolC! (If I remember correctly. It might have just been two out of those three...)

...I'd like the "pets" one best, especially if it's pets AND musical instruments.

it's archaic as hell, all right, but when i was growing up in New England it could still be heard dribbling from the lips of a few old-timers. And yes, as far as I know it is a colloquial variant of "I swear". Maybe the PC crowd in the nineteenth century thought saying the word swear was as bad as swearing (in the sacreligious sense) and made people use it as a euphemism. The things folk will do!

"I Swan" in New England?

Geesh, that one I thought for sure was southern dialect. My gramma said it all the time, and I thought it was quaint. Always heard it meant "I swear"

I LOVE the idea of mudcatters with their pets, could we do that, please, please, please? Pets I have, lots of em!Frankly, some people shouldn't be seen nearly nude, and I'm one of em!

Oh man. This could be difficult. And dangerous. First I'm going to have to find my little spider pet. (S/he's shy and likes to hide.) Then I'm going to have to catch it and then hope the camera will take a picture of something that small. And I hope S/he doesn't bite me. I got bit by a spider a couple of weeks ago. Hurt like hell (although it did wake me up pretty good).

But I have my limits! I am not posing nude or even semi-nude with a spider!

The pix are fine and can be done many ways, but I would love to see each one featured give a list of their favorite songs so that the calendar can be a "A Song A Day" thing... you know, it would remind us to dig up some old favorites or learn some new ones.

Pix: Mudcatters, instruments, open cases on the ground, surrounded by singing people.... in odd locations or bizarre situations. "Ultimate Busking." With a short description of what they had to do to pull it off. Just imagine.... but the result would be an acculmulated image suggesting that "you can sing anywhere and in all circumstances." (Show how music belongs everywhere, see?) Ideally each pic would have be taken in the season in which the month featured occurs. January busking.... hmmm.... where?

I like the idea of catter's with their pets AND their instruments......although I wouldn't let my kitten anywhere near my bodhran.....it'd be worse than the stanley knife effect!!

I think it has to be something different...... we can see pics of most of us if we check out the "resources" page... it has to be more than that....... although I do like the idea of group reinactments of songs at festivals...........

I'm still keen on the folk song one... and for all of you pet lovers out there... you could pic songs with animals in them...... think of ways to do " the cat came back"!!! sort of thing........ Carol you can do "incy wincy spider"!!!!!!!! *grin*
