Subject: Dear River Thames From: songs2play Date: 24 Apr 02 - 05:46 AM I recently overheard a catchy tune on the radio, but as I was about to go through the Mersey tunnel I missed who the artist was and most of the lyrics. I caught part of the the first verse - "Dear River Thames You keep moving along. Not knowing where you're going Or where you've come from...... ......In the valley..... ..............the sea" It was a single acoustic guitar accompanyment - nice fingerpicking. Sorry that's all I know. ANY ONE KNOW IT ? |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Dear River Thames From: GUEST,BobbyJ Date: 24 Apr 02 - 06:04 AM I've heard the song on a Folk Sampler type CD. Dear River Thames is attributed to Richard Digance and Ralph McTell, but I'm afraid I ain't got the CD anymore. Sorry couldn't be of more help. But yes it is a cracking song. |

Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: DEAR RIVER THAMES (Richard Digance From: GUEST,ralphM Date: 24 Apr 02 - 12:38 PM http://www.wiganwn36jb.freeserve.co.uk/dearriverthames.htm DEAR RIVER THAMES 1. (C)Dear River (Emin)Thames you keep (Amin)moving a(G)long, Not (F)knowing where you're (C)going, nor (F)where you've come (C)from. You heads in the (Emin)valley your (Amin)feet in the (G)sea. (F)Dear River (C)Thames, Stay a while, Stay a (G)while, Listen to (C)me. 1. Dear River Thames you keep moving along, Not knowing where you're going, nor where you've come from. You heads in the valley your feet in the sea. Dear River Thames, Stay a while, Stay a while, Listen to me. 2. Dear River Thames distress floods my mind, Through London's grey pastures so bleak and unkind. Clear blue through meadows, darker through towns, Dear River Thames Stay by me, Stay by me, And don't let me down. 3. Dear River Thames sail me down to the sea, Where seagulls sing anthems and circle round free. And there I shall rest where the waters descend, Dear River Thames, For the right, I must confide, That you are my friend. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Dear River Thames From: GUEST,RaymondWong Date: 24 Apr 02 - 06:20 PM This song is one of my favorites. You can find it in the CD 'Best of the Transatlantic Year'. It has a nice collection of songs from 3 of his albums : 'England's green and pleasant land', 'How the West was lost', and 'Money machine' (not so sure about the name of the 3rd album). By the way, I just checked his website ( http://www.digance.co.uk/ )and found that he is doing a small tour in October 2002, starting at the Tower Arts Centre in Winchester on the 4th October. A big fan. RW

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Dear River Thames From: songs2play Date: 25 Apr 02 - 02:43 AM Thanks to one and all. RW any idea what the connection between Richard Digance and Ralph McTell is on Dear River Thames ? Did Ralph write it ? |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Dear River Thames From: GUEST,RaymondWong Date: 25 Apr 02 - 05:48 PM songs2play, I have no idea about Ralph's involvment on this song until I read the posting above by GUEST,BobbyJ. I'll check out my copy of 'Best of the Transatlantic Years' CD when I'm home tonight and see if I can find anything on it. If not, I'll dig out my 'How the west was lost' LP (a US release) this weekend and check it out. RW

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Dear River Thames From: GUEST,RaymondWong Date: 26 Apr 02 - 04:38 PM songs2play, I checked my copy of the 'Best of the Transatlantic Year' CD. 'Dear River Thames' is credited only to Richard Digance. I also checked out the name of the 3rd album in this 'best of' CD. It is 'Treading the Boards', not 'Money Machine' which was incorrectly stated in my earlier post. RW |
