I saw a recent thread about Scotland the Brave and it sparked a vague memory from the '60's or so about a song entitled Scotland the Grave (to the same tune as the original) all I can remember are the first two lines;

Land o' the dirty weather Land where the midgies gaither

Any ideas about the rest?

Jim

If you were to type, for example, land o' the dirty weather into the very useful "Digitrad and Forum Search" which you will find in the main Forum page, and which does exactly what it says on the box, you would find:

Variations of Scotland the Brave

Strange- I typed in Land o' the dirty weather and got no results. Are you sure that it does "exactly what it says"? Sometimes, Occasionally, If you hold your tongue just right. Now, if I had used lower case on land... it might have worked.
Guest, the answer is to try, try again, using different words from the song, before you give up on the DT and Forum Search. If the entry is fairly recent it may not be in there yet, in which case go to Forum Search under Quick Links- If you have a lot of free time and want to play around.

It's quite true that there are occasional glitches, and that the index is not updated as regularly as we would all like, but, provided you bear in mind that people sometimes have odd ideas about spelling, it's a pretty good tool. I'd recommend using all lower-case when searching; that may just be superstition, but it seems to work for me; I found the thread on the first attempt.

..."which does exactly what it says on the box" is -more or less- a quote from a tv advert current in the UK at the moment; perhaps I should have left that bit out, as it may confuse.

Actually I tried 6 or 7 times with different words and phrases from the song, using a mixture of upper and lower case I got no results at all which was why I resorted to posting the question! Perhaps I could have tried the quick links as Dicho suggested, if I had known about it. I only manage to get into Mudcat for a few minutes each week or so and so probably do not have the ease of use that some of you obviously have.
