Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bluebird of Happiness???? From: Joe Offer Date: 29 Apr 02 - 09:13 PM I'm guessing it's the Joan Baez recording of "Glad Bluebird of Happiness" from David's Album (click). I don't have the album myself, so I can't transcribe the words. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bluebird of Happiness???? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 29 Apr 02 - 10:49 PM I faintly remembered that there was a popular song of that title in the 40's... I looked it up in Joel Whitburn's Pop Memories 1890-1954 and sure enough, three artists hit the charts with it:Art Mooney, Joe Stafford and Gordon MacRae, and the aforementioned Jan Pierce. From what I remember(which isn't a lot) I liked the song. I can't believe that I liked it, or even heard it by Jan Pierce. I think that Art Mooney probably had the big hit. I'd forgotten his name completely. I have no idea where you'd get the words to it. I have a lot of 40's music, but I don't think the song is in anything I have.. Jerry |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bluebird of Happiness???? From: Don Firth Date: 30 Apr 02 - 04:48 PM Jan Peerce (note the spelling) was an American operatic tenor. His voice was unique in that although he sang in the tenor range, his voice quality sounded almost like that of a light baritone. Richard Tucker, another American operatic tenor had a similar voice. They were both major stars at the Metropolitan Opera, and were highly respected in Europe. Picture and biography of Peerce HERE. Record companies often tried to add a bit of prestige to their "pop" music line-up by getting singers such as Jan Peerce to record non-religious "inspirational" stuff. "Bluebird of Happiness" got a lot of radio play way back when. Click HERE and scroll down for audio clip. Don Firth |
Subject: Lyr Add: BLUEBIRD OF HAPPINESS From: Don Firth Date: 30 Apr 02 - 04:56 PM Bluebird of Happiness Words by Edward Heyman and Harry Parr Davies; music by Sandor Harmati. –Introduced at Radio City Music Hall. -Popularized by Jan Peerce. -Best-selling record in 1948 by Art Mooney and his Orchestra. (verse - spoken) The beggar man and his mighty king are only diff'rent in name, For they are treated just the same by fate. Today a smile and tomorrow tears, We're never sure what's in store, So learn your lesson before too late, so (refrain) Be like I, hold your head up high, Till you find a bluebird of happiness. You will find greater peace of mind Knowing there's a bluebird of happiness. And when he sings to you, Though you're deep in blue, You will see a ray of light creep through, And so remember this, life is no abyss, Somewhere there's a bluebird of happiness. Life is sweet, tender and complete When you find the bluebird of happiness. You will find perfect peace of mind When you find the bluebird of happiness. Two hearts that beat as one, 'Neath a new found sun, We are in a world that's just begun, And you must sing his song, as you go along, When you find the bluebird of happiness. Don Firth |
