Don't you wish you babe was Tailor made like mine? She's a tailor made gal and She's built up from the ground If you see my baby Lordy don't get smart If you see my woman Lordy don't get smart Or else I'll cut out your liver And lord I'll eat your heart All the best, Andrew |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tailor Made Gal From: Sorcha Date: 08 May 02 - 10:37 AM Nothing with "tailor made". Found a few with "from the ground up". Who is the artist? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tailor Made Gal From: Joe Offer Date: 09 May 02 - 01:36 AM Hi, Andrew - all I found was that an artist named John Hardee (click) recorded "Taylor-Made Gal" (note spelling) in the late 1940's. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tailor Made Gal From: AndyJim Date: 11 May 02 - 01:27 AM It's a blues, if that helps. Been thirty-some years since I heard it on a collection. No idea who sang it; solo with guitar. Oh well, too obscure I reckon. All the best, Andrew |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tailor Made Gal From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 May 02 - 12:44 PM I would bet on Big Joe Williams. According to various sources on the Internet, he recorded songs called "Tailor Made Babe" "Tailor Made Baby" "Tailor Made Woman," and/or "Tailor Made Blues." No luck finding lyrics, though. Try this link If that link doesn't work, go to CDNOW and search for the song title "Tailor Made." Hopefully you will be able to bring up some albums with sound samples that you can listen to. If you identify the exact song/album/artist you're looking for, come back and post the information here, along with any new lyrics you learn. It might jog somebody's memory, or make someone realize they own the album, and then maybe they'll transcribe it for you. I've seen it happen. |
Subject: Lyr Add: TAILOR-MADE WOMAN (Bryant/Kemp) From: Jim Dixon Date: 14 Sep 11 - 08:17 PM Not the song that was wanted, probably, but I might as well post it here. I found the song on Spotify. TAILOR-MADE WOMAN Words and music by Jimmy Bryant and Bill Kemp As sung by Tennessee Ernie Ford, with Joe 'Fingers' Carr on piano, 1951. There's an old sayin' 'bout roll your own. There's tailor-made suits; that's quite well known. There's a tailor-made woman that's hard to beat. Takes a tailor-made man to knock her off her feet. When I want lovin', she gives it to me. We go together like honey and the bee. She's a tailor-made woman; I'm a tailor-made man. That's the kind o' lovin' I understand. She's sweet, neat, all complete. She's the kind o' girl I love. She's small, tall; that ain't all. True as the stars above. She's a real sweet gal with a tailor-made smile. For a tailor-made kiss, I'd walk a mile. Listen here, boy, if you can meet, Take a tailor-made woman; they're hard to beat. |

Subject: Lyr Add: TAILOR MADE BABY (Big Joe Williams) From: Jim Dixon Date: 19 Sep 11 - 03:06 PM I listened to this on Spotify & made this transcription: TAILOR MADE BABY As sung by Big Joe Williams on "Blues Classics" (L & R Music/Records, 1996) Whoa, babe! Whoa, babe! Tailor made. Tailor made. Don't you wish your little gal was tailor make like mine? I'm goin' set in the shade, baby. Have your dresses made. I'm goin' set in the shade, woman, have your dresses made. Well, I love my baby 'cause—tailor made. Don't you wish your gal was tailor made like mine? Don't you wish your gal—tailor made like mine? Tailor made, she's built right from the ground. Goin' down by the river, swing out on a limb. Goin' down to the river, swing out on a limb. I'm gonna ask my baby, must I sink or swim? Tailor made. Tailor made, child. Yeah, you wish your woman was tailor made like mine. Ha-ha-ha! |
