I noticed on the newswire yesterday that Donell Leahy and Natalie MacMaster have announced their engagement. Canadian Traditional Music fans will recognize these two as among the best musical talents in the nation.

Can you imagine what a blast their wedding reception will be? Leahy... a dynamite group and top recording artists... united with the fiddling family members from the MacMaster lineage! Wow!

Hey, George Seto! 'Any chance of you wielding some influence to get us a couple of invitations? ;-)

Or are you alluding to Wendy MacIsaac's cousin, Ashley? As far as I know, Natalie isn't related to him.

Well, of coruse Natalie and Ashley are cousins. Down here in Cape Breton, we're all inbred. Someone here's who's not your cousin is probably a sibling (whether you knew it or not) or from away.

Fiddle playing is genetic, don't you know?

I was taken aback when I tuned into "Live At Five" last night after a call from a relative telling me Nat was fiddling live. When I got there, the first thing I saw was that big old engagment ring.... a sad day indeed for many a Maritime lad. Not only is she the dirtiest fiddler in the world, she's the best lookin in the kitchen. Then to find out who the groom to be is !!! I just hope she can teach them Uppity Canucks some dirt ! (D'ough, d'ey're ne're so awful shabby at da catgut needder !)

Let's hope they spawn fiddlers at least half as good as they.... my, my, t'would be simply amazin !!!

Wendy is NOT Ashley's sister. Sorry. Ashley's sister is Lisa MAcIsaac. She's a terrific player as well.

Wendy is Ashley's cousin. They grew up in houses next to each other.

Ah, George, my mother is a MacLean from Cape Breton, a tiny place near the causeway called Grand Anse . This thread has got me giggling as it reminds me of conversations my mom would have with my grandmother when she'd go home for a visit. My grandmother would try to bring my mom up to date on what had been going on, I would get completely lost with Mac's a Mc's and cousins.

That's right George,Lisa is Ashleys sister and she play's for Bruce Guthro when he plays in C.B. at least she used to,Bruce even stated on stage that she is a better player than Ashley,as far as he is concerned.
