Subject: Glasgow Irish Song Info - Scaffie's Song
From: GUEST,rmunro

Anyone got any information/fuller text on a Glasgow Irish song called The Scaffie's Song. Here is the bit of it I've got

I'm an able bodied labourer
From Ireland all the way
I was working doon in the Gas hoose
Struck for bigger pay
I struck the gaffer wi a brick
for that I had to fly
So I cam across to Glasgow Toon my fortune for to try

I loafed around for a good long while
At last I got a job
What do ye think I've got in a week
No less than nineteen bob
The job I've got's a easy one
Never rax my bones
For I am one of the famous men that sweeps the cassie stones

Chorus: I'm the lad that can handle the brush
There's none can equal me
I am the smartest scavenger that iver you did see
Yoe needna think I'm bouncing
For the gaffer Felix John dcelares I am a champion at sweeping cassie stones

Thanks
RM
