My daughter Sarah will be in Dublin on May 29-30, and would like to know about any singing sessions she might be able to visit on those days. Any possibilities? Any other tourist recommendations, museums, etc? Thanks.

I'll miss her by one day - a crowd of us are going over on the 30th. Quite a few are "Dubs" I'll get in touch with them and ask for suggestions and PM you the results.

Cheers,

Bill.

Have you done a forum search? My memory, which is quite fallible of course, tells me there have been a number of threads on this very question in recent months, some of which included information and links on the Dublin singing session.

Let us know if your forum search comes up blank.

The main Dublin session (the Góilín Singers Club) is on Fridays in Mayes pub, Dorset street. However, I rather think that there may not be a session this Friday as its the weekend of the Ennistymon Singing Festival, which many regulars attend.

Regards

29th & 30th are Wednesday & Thursday. I don't know of any singing sessions on those nights. There are tunes sessions on Thursday in Hughes Pub and also the Chancery Inn which is near by. The Chancery now has a different name up on the door. I think it might be O Reilly's but I'm not sure.

I don't know much about Wednesday night sessions in Dublin City Centre because I play at a local session in Raheny GAA club on a Wednesday night. There'd be some singing there if she was interested. However it might be a little bit awkward getting there and back if her accommodation is in the City centre - its about 5 miles out of town and Public transport finishes before the session does. Taxis are an option, but they can be a bit hard to come by and very expensive.

If staying in town Hughes and the Cobblestone are both worth checking out on Wednesday as well.

The Irish Times website has "what's on" in Dublin page that lists sessions and gigs. My advice is always to pick up the magazine "In Dublin" from the newsagent as soon as you arrive, as it has the most complete listings of what's on available.

Dublin is lovely and has heaps of places to visit.... but if she wants to get out of the city and see some really good monuments I'm sure they probably run days trips to Newgrange

she'll have a ball in Dublin
